Personnel: Detective Scott Holman and Sgt. Carey Ferrell spent the week at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) while receiving Leadership in Police Organization (LPO) training. This leadership training is highly sought after and recognized leadership training in the law enforcement field. Participants must attend one week a month for three months to complete. Deputy Chief Terry Hill and I have also attended this training previously. Deputy Chief Terry Hill was out of the office this week while tending to a minor surgical procedure. He is scheduled to return to light duty on Monday, December 16. The 2013 Christmas party is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, at the upstairs of the Jack. Social hour begins at 6 PM and dinner will be served at 7 PM with catering by B&B Market. The cost is $10 per person. Invitations have been sent to Carlton County Courthouse, Fond du Lac Police Department, MN State Patrol, Moose Lake PD, Thompson Township PD, Carlton County Sheriffs Department, Carlton County Human Services/Youth Shelter, Carlton County Dispatch, Cloquet City Employees, Cloquet City Attorneys Office, Carlton County Probation, Cloquet Area Fire District, State/FDL DNR and all retirees. Hope to see you there! Training: On Wednesday night all of the officers completed a mandatory cold weather night shoot. Each year the State of Minnesota

requires one cold weather night time qualification for the officers to maintain their license. If memory serves me, the temperature was -17 and one of the coldest cold weather qualifications that Ive ever participated in. Patrol: With the cold weather, calls for service and other outdoor-related crimes plummeted (no pun intended). On Thursday night, officers provided crowd control and parking enforcement during the Duluth East v. Cloquet high school hockey game at Northwoods Arena. Miscellaneous: The remainder of the week was spent creating future staff reports for upcoming Council meetings and the 2013 Police Department Annual Report.
