Psa. 119:53 Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy TUESDAYFOCUS ON CHRIST Chronological Bible Reading: Haggai; Revelation 16 Tuesday, December 24 Phil. 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Seventy years ago, German pastor and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer spent Christmas 1943 in the military section of Tegel Prison in Berlin, a Christian prisoner of the Nazis. On December 22nd he wrote how fear could only be overcome, and pain and suffering could only be endured, through faith. I must be able to know for certain that I am in the hands of God, and not in mens. Eph. 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord Bonhoeffer knew how Christmas could heighten prisoners feelings of loneliness and despair, so on Christmas morning he wrote a series of prayers for fellow prisoners (prayers for them to pray). These were purposefully designed to help the fearful, lonely and despairing find faith, comfort and peace in the midst of uncertainty and suffering (now found in his book, Letters and Papers from Prison). O God: Early in the morning do I cry unto thee. Help me to pray, and to think only of thee. I cannot pray alone. In me there is darkness, but with thee there is light. I am lonely, but thou leavest me not. I am feeble in heart, but thou leavest me not. I am restless, but with thee there is peace. In me there is bitterness, but with thee there is patience; thy ways are past understanding, but thou knowest the way for me. Jesus, you are the one who said, Let there be light, and there was light, for you are light (John 1:1-5). Your atoning work on the cross makes it possible for your Holy Spirit to indwell me as my eternal, ever-present consoler (2 Cor. 1:3-5), Comforter (John 14:15-18), strengthener (Phil. 4:13), enabler (Eph. 3:16) and sanctifier (Eph. 1:11,12; Phil. 2:13; Heb. 10:14). Give me all this through an experience of Christ and his cross. In Jesus name I ask for it. Amen. FRIDAY CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY Chronological Bible Reading: Zechariah 7-9; Revelation 19 Friday, December 27 John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: Dear Maker and Master: Make everyone in our church look to Christ alone. Some backsliders are questioning whether they ever really did believe in Jesus. Help them leave that question alone and simply believe on him now! Make them content to let the past go under the bridge, and come out once and for all (if they never did before) to embrace our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. He is sufficient to save! Let Peter weep bitterly, but come back to his Master again. Let the wandering prodigal among us cry out to you and look to you, and as they look, revive the stream of eternal life in them again by the energy of your Holy Spirit. We need his work in our midst and we need to depend on him daily. Whatever we have been (or not been) in the past, we can be restored to fruitfulness now. Let us feast on your love together. We know of some who are mentally distracted. Some are dismayed with inner temptations. Almost at the end of their wits by Satans assault, they do not know which way to turn. You are only inactive because they have not acknowledged you. So Lord, when they have no wits, give them wits enough to trust Christ. When they can do nothing else, may they faint-away on the pillow in the back of the ship with Jesus. We lean on your bosom today. Help us, when we are caught in extremes, to feel that now is the time for God to work. When driven to the fringe-edge of hope, show us mercy. Give us grace to fall into the loving arms of Jesus, because there we find life from the dead. We thank you we have him to turn to. Bring us souls. Use us to disciple the immature, and to train those who are ready to run in ministry. Do it all for Jesus sake. Amen. WEDNESDAYREVIVAL PRAYING Chronological Bible Reading: Zechariah 1-3; Revelation 17 Wednesday, December 25 John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. O God, the King of Glory: I thank you for teaching my heart by sending me the light of your word and the lamp of the Holy Ghost. Allow me to have a right judgment in all things today by the same Holy Spirit, and to rejoice in his presence. Use my relationship with your Spirit to keep me steadfast in the faith. Psa. 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. O God, you are the strength of every one who puts their trust in you. Mercifully accept my prayers. Since, because of the weakness of my old nature I can do no good thing without you, give me the help of your grace. In keeping with your word, make me please you in will and in deed. Psa. 27:9 Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. O Lord, you never fail to help and guide me as you bring me up in fear and love. Keep me, I pray, under the protection of your good providence today. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Give me a perpetual fear of losing your blessing, and an intense love of your holy name as the motivation for all my desires. Defend me by your mighty power, and comfort me in all dangers and adversities. In time of trial make the way of escape plain, and if none is found then I will use earnest prayer as the way, through Jesus Christ my Lord. For I know and am persuaded that if I hold on, you WILL make a way. Amen. SATURDAYIN THE PSALMS Chronological Bible Reading: Zechariah 10-12; Revelation 20 Saturday, December 28 Psa. 77:14 Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people. Mighty Lord, Thou Art the God! Make my soul turn back from my present trials and contemplate the wonderful works of God. Whatever else may pass away and be forgotten, your marvelous works will not. Make my memory aid my faith. When faith goes through its seven years of famine, memory should open the storehouse of grain. Meditation enriches my prayer. It is so sad how most prayer of professing Christians is worthless, because they take no time for deep preparation. Teach me that if I cannot trace your steps I can still trust your hand, because you are holy and good (all the time) and will always do right. Let me worship in order to increase my wisdom. Your providence and grace are both full of examples of power and perfection. In grace you are mighty to save. In power you are mighty to preserve. How can my faith be weak when your power is so strong? Help my meditation banish my doubts! Psa. 77:19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known. Even the atmosphere is obedient to you. You move far down in secret channels. You have no problem walking on top of the same sea that threatens to drown me. You are alone in glory. You will accomplish your eternal purpose. Evilwhich you could have prevented from ever existingyou instead turn inside-out to work your will (though your means for working that will is often concealed from my eye). Guide me on, Oh great Jehovah. The Smiter of Egypt is a Shepherd to me. Go before me into the New Year. Do it so you may be glorified by Jesus. Amen.

Almighty Lord God: Does my soul shudder as it should at my sins and the sins of others? Do I myself lack inward holiness, even though I am trying to win others for the Holy One, Jesus Christ? Jeremiah lamented the sins of Israel. Lots soul was vexed by the sins of Sodom. Ezek. 9:4 And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. Mark me out also Lord! While you go through the center of our city, mark me as interceding for __________ and __________, because I know their sin is grievous. I hear the cry from their children. I hear the sigh from their spouse. Let us trust you together to bring them to yourself for transformation! They have made such great efforts, just to go to Hell. I shudder to think about them. It horrifies me, mainly because it reminds me of the crudeness and vulgarity of my own heart. They fell today; I may fall tomorrow Lord, apart from your grace. They need your grace for salvation; I need it to keep standing. It was our sin that crucified the Savior; that is why sin is so terrible. I see in every iniquity the hammer, the nails, the thorns and the spear. How cursed! Heart, do you not abhor sin for all it has done to wound you? Great God, you deserve better treatment, and you claim it through the cross. You will be forced to repay my lost friends who have the audacity to die in their sins. How dreadful this will be, unless I can reach them with the good news of a Savior. Help me make sinners my friends and only sin my enemy. Amen. GIVE GOD THE FIRST PART OF EVERY DAY. The first commitment is to a daily quiet time with God. Our weekly Prayer Diary provides a template for daily devotions. 2) TITHEWORK 1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DIME OF EVERY DOLLARno questions asked. Ten percent is a miniscule amount in our affluent society, but it must come off the top in order to show that God is our priority. We want the blessing of the firstfruits (first devotion, first dime and first day) to flow out to the rest of our resources. 3) TEAMWORD Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK. You should fellowship with a group of believers around the word of God every Sunday in our church.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the same things over and over. This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the Bible chronologically in a year. Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying. Alan

QUALITY CHRISTIANITY INVOLVES THREE THINGS

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had prayed. Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition. God keep us prayerful.
