FLOOR HARDENER WORK PROCEDURE

1 Lay damp-proof film
Before casting concrete

 After checking the level of stone


bedding ( +5 ~ -25 ) ,lay vinyl
sheet th=0.15.

2 Install guide rail at construction joint  Pour concrete and put re-bar to
fix the guide rail in pitch @900 on
the vinyl sheet.
 Install guide rail ( 40x40 square
pipe ) after checking the location
and level. After that fix by
welding.

3 Install re-bar of slab

 Pay attention to the level of re-


bar. Keep concrete cover from 30
to 50mm.

4 Form work, protection

 Install wire mesh to stop


concrete.
 Protect column, wall and etc. by
vinyl sheet or something.

FLOOR HARDENER WORK PROCEDURE

1 Inspection of concrete
1 st day

 Cast concrete at daytime. ( It’s


difficult to check at night time.)

 Slump tolerance:9±2cm
If slump is out of tolerance, the
concrete shall not be
used.(Check all trucks)
 Check there is no wooden and
clay pieces.

2 Casting concrete(6m width)

 Spray water before casting at the


part which water in concrete is
absorbed. For example joint
between previous concrete ,
along wall etc.
 Waite for good concrete coming in
case of using pump. Pour no
good concrete to another place
3 Leveling by screeder and shall not be used.
 Compact concrete by vibrator at
each @500~600 pitch.

 Move screeder 3 times with


adjusting the level about -2mm
from the guide rail.

4 Leveling & tamping by big trowel

 Leveling & tamping by big trowel.


Check the concrete level by level
machine. Check cement paste
coming up to the surface by eyes.

5 Remove bleeding water & laitance


1 st day
 20~30 minutes later, check
condition of concrete such as
bleeding water and hardness.

 Remove bleeding water and


laitance by big trowel, if
necessary.

 According to the situation, repeat


to above process from 0 to 2
times.
 Use wooden trowel near the
border.

 Mark @2m on the temporary


bridge and @25cm on the guide
rail.
 The workers must not step on
concrete when sprinkle hardener.
Use temporary bridge.
6 Sprinkle powder of hardener
 After finishing previous process,
immediately start sprinkling
hardener. Consumption of
hardener is 4kg/m2. Only one
application.
 Sprinkle all material in the order-
made sieve with refer to the
marking 2m x 25cm grid.
 In order to sprinkle hardener
7 Leveling hardener by big trowel uniformly, workers should sprinkle
hardener in same speed and
rhythm. And at least go and
return once. Lap about 1cm at the
border line.

 Start leveling hardener by big


trowel when color of whole
hardener powder changes into
dark to absorb water.
 Big trowel shall be traveled 2 or 3

8 Rubbing hardener
1 st day

 For about 30~120 minutes , often


check the surface condition and
 Trowel machine + disc plate decide the staring time.

 There is no floating water. When


we step on and apply weight , a
footprint can be seen slightly, we
can start rubbing. ( See photo as
below)

 Operate trowel machine as the


illustration on the left side . Shape
of movement likes spiral and
mainly straight.
 Trowel the surface as much as

 Make same level at the
construction joint in this process
carefully.
9 Troweling(1)  Trowel the surface strongly by

1 st day

Troweling(2)  For about 20 ~ 40 minutes, often


check the surface condition and
 Trowel machine + steel blade decide the staring time.
 2 nd application
 It is condition that few hardener
sticks when applying pressure by
steel trowel.
 Operating method of trowel
machine is same as process No.8.
But more quickly.
 Trowel the surface as much as
possible near the guide rail.
 Trowel the surface strongly and in
one operation by hand at the
border with soft steel trowel or
11 Troweling(3) plastic trowel. Pay attention to
 Trowel machine + steel blade prevent color become black.
 3 rd(final)application  This is a final process to use hand
trowel.
 For about 30 ~ 60 minutes, often
check the surface condition and
decide the staring time.
 It is condition that no hardener
sticks when applying pressure by
soft steel trowel. And the surface
is very smooth and close.
 Operating method of trowel
machine is same as process No.8.
But more quickly.
 Don’t apply the border. ( About
30cm)
 Don’t trowel too much because
color changes into black.

12 Primary curing in the dry air


1 st~2 nd day
 Leave the surface in the dry air
for 12 ~ 20 hours curing to avoid
direct sunlight and water.

 According to requirement,
arrange watchman and install
equipment to keep off anyone.

1 Mark the line to cut joint


2 nd day

 Remove impurities from surface


such as cement, powder of
hardener, sand and etc.
Especially pay attention to border
such as construction joint,
column, wall.

 Mark the line to cut joint before


2 Spray water for curing start spraying water. Don’t make a
mistake because wrong line will
remain.

 Lay thick cloth on the floor with


10cm lapping. Then spray enough
water. Remove air inside cloth
completely.
 Cover this by vinyl sheet with no
gap to keep wet surface.

 Execute to spray water for 7 days


everyday.

1 Spray water for curing


3~6 th day
 Turn up the vinyl sheet, then
spray water.

 Cover this by vinyl sheet with no


gap to keep wet surface again.
 Remove air inside cloth
completely.

1 Install plywood for protection


7 th day

 Install plywood th=9mm all over


the working area.

2 Casting concrete at next area


 Follow this work procedure,
execute next area.

FLOOR HARDENER WORK PROCEDURE

1 Cutter joint
8 th day
 Turn up the vinyl sheet, then
spray water to keep wet condition
during working.

 Remove the minimum parts of the


cloth to cut joint along the
marking.
 Start spraying water at next area
at the same time.

2 Cleaning and remove water

 Remove cloth gradually. Spray


water by vinyl hose and wash the
surface until water become quite
clear.
 After washing, immediately
remove water completely by
squeegee. And keep it dry.
 Before cloth become dry, wash
used cloth carefully to re-use it.

1 Natural drying
2 weeks later or more

 Keep the surface dry more than


2weeks and don’t make it wet
and dirty. (Need to check often)

 If water comes from the next


area, immediately remove and
2 Remove efflorescence wipe up water.

 Polish the floor under wet


condition by pad which has
hardness 4. (Hardness 4 means
harder than efflorescence softer
than concrete.)
 During polishing, remove waste
water on the surface by squeegee
or water resist vacuum cleaner.
After that wipe the surface by wet
mop (or waste cloth). Wash the
mop frequently by clean water.
Before using, squeeze the mop
strongly.

■ Attention
1. Protect column and wall. Mark the level on the column and wall.
2. Slump is very low. But don’t add water into concrete. OC staff should check the workers
not to add water.
3. Clean up around the working area frequently not to be dirty by sand, paper bag, vinyl,
insects, and waste concrete.
4. Need to consider how to remove bleeding water from next area. (Also consider about
water of curing from next area)
5. Waiting time between processes is depending on the conditions of the concrete and
weather. So we need to check the conditions and decide the starting time of the next
process every time.
