Internship
Precious Formals, League City, TX
Ruby Ashraff
Summer 2009

Precious Formals is a Formal Wear company based out of League City, Texas. They are a
wholesale/distributor, specializing in prom and pageantry wear. This year they have also
introduced bridal, children’s pageantry, and quince wear to their collection.
As an intern, I worked with sales making cold calls and finding prospects. I also worked
with accounting, updating files and running credit checks. Hand-on time with the gowns was
accomplished through several photo shoots, where I helped to dress and accessorize models, as
well as work with the make-up and hair stylists. I also attended fashion show in New York and
assisted with market set-up in Dallas.

Educational Experience
1.The courses I feel have become most valuable to me during my period at Purdue have been my
Organizational Leadership and Supervision (OLS) classes. I am currently trying to obtain my
Associates degree in this program because it teaches not only what type of leader I am, but how
to communicate effectively as a leader, as well as how to get the most out of teamwork in an
organization.
Also, I feel my sales class has opened my eyes to how consumers view products and the best
way to pitch sales in order to have loyal customers.
As far as activities/projects are concerned, I feel that being a company host for the CSR career
fair the past two years has been a very positive experience for me. It helped me to get my name
out as well as gain interview experience.
2. I have received Dean’s List 2008, 2009

Skills

1. A skill I believe I have that rises above the ordinary is that I am very empathetic (yes,
skill). I feel that I am very good at seeing where people are coming from and why they
react the way they do about things. This is a great skill because it allows me to be able to
read into how people may respond to certain tasks and what position they work best in. I
am also a very good communicator. I have no problems getting a conversation started and
I believe I am good at getting my points across in the best way possible.
As far as talents are concerned, I think I have an excellent eye for detail. I can remember
specific colors and embroidery on dresses, and also have an eye for what shapes of
clothing work best on people’s body types. I do think this is a special talent because it
takes being able to read into people to know what style could work on them. This of
course, is important in the fashion industry, in which I hope to work someday, specifically
in the bridal wear industry.
2. My skills working with people are as said in question one. I do not currently speak more
than one language, but hope to learn Spanish soon, because it is so widely spoken in our
country.
3. Unfortunately, my computer skills aren’t wonderful; however, I am currently taking a
computer software class in order to help that situation. I am comfortable with access as
well as power point.
4. I do not have skills working with equipment outside of cash registers and credit card
machines.
