KEEP THAT HAIR!

The Three Keys That Lock In Your Restored Hair

By

John Kelby
Congratulations! Youve done more than just read Hair Again! Youve actually applied the techniques, made the lotions, tried the products and adapted a routine that now, six months to a year later, have resulted in a revitalized scalp. What was once a bald area began producing hair: soft and fuzzy at first, then, as the hair follicles awakened to new health you saw the fuzz gradually replaced by strong, shiny, flexible, truly healthy hair. Congratulations! Your patience, persistence and discipline have paid off. Youve joined the thousands of others who have refused to take their hair loss lying down. You have no doubt made many changes in your hair habits, from nutrition to hair care to reducing stress in your life. But if youll forgive my preaching to the choir for a moment, it may be that, like many of us, youve gotten a little slack in some of your new habits. Life gets busy as new priorities demand your attention. Time goes by until one day, that little red light starts flashing. You begin to notice more than the usual amount of hair remaining in your hairbrush, or perhaps you notice more of your scalp shining through in a problem area you thought you had under control. The Three Keys That Lock in Your Restored Hair Its time to get back on track, which is why I wrote this book for both of us: a simple reminder of the three essential steps that allow you and me to keep the hair weve worked so hard to restore. I have found it helpful to review these three key steps every now and then and honestly ask myself: Am I on track? Do I need to pay a bit more attention to one or more of these essentials?

The three keys that lock in your restored hair are:

! Key #1: Organize Your Psychological Landscape ! Key #2: Address Your Physical Fundamentals ! Key #3: Focus On Healthy Hair Habits Lets get right to it, and I promise to keep things simple and to the point.

Key #1: Organize Your Psychological Landscape

Your psychological landscape is the first place things get muddled. You know yourself that when youre a mess inside, your cluttered house or chaotic car tend to reflect that disorder. Its tough, isnt it, when issues stemming from relationships, work, finances or other anxieties overwhelm your attention. Your reaction and concern over those issues tend to dominate your inner landscape, shoving aside other and often more constructive priorities. " Key Phrase Alert: Disciplined Persistence Keeping your restored hair requires that your continued, disciplined persistence holds steady, providing the framework for the exterior tasks you must undertake on a daily basis for healthy hair. As other concerns vie for your attention, remember to apply the techniques you learned in Hair Again! to quiet your mind. Only in quieting your mind can you begin to sort through and prioritize the issues keeping you from your own enlightened self-interest, principal of which is keeping the restored hair in which youve invested so much time, effort and expense. With a quiet mind, you will soon realize that your disciplined persistence is rooted in your priorities, which in turn are fueled by the degree and the nature of your passions. Revisit the passion that caused you to embark on restoring your hair in the first place, allowing it free reign for as long as it takes to reenergize the priority you originally assigned it. The higher that priority is in the Enlightened Self-Interest portion of your psyche, the stronger and more well-anchored your disciplined persistence becomes. The point of this exercise isnt simply to read through the steps and mentally agree that, Yes. That seems like a good idea. You must take a few minutes to actually do it, experience it and energize it in order to find your disciplined persistence strengthened and fully present as a dynamic force.

Key #2: Address Your Physical Fundamentals

Youve experienced success by addressing the physical fundamentals leading to hair restoration and the growth of healthy hair. Youll recall from Hair Again! that healthy hair requires a four-way balance among its main components: protein, pH, sebum and moisture. Its easy to get sidetracked and to slip into behaviors that work against maintaining that four-way balance. Sometimes its just easer to eat at a fast food restaurant, or to gobble junk food at parties or while watching the game with friends. Perhaps, for whatever reason, your alcohol consumption has escalated or youve been drawn back into the nicotine habit. Hey - life happens. Im not your parent saying, You have to stop drinking! or You have to stop smoking! But were back to that old priority thing again. If you want to keep that hair youve worked so hard to get, then maybe you need to take a quick poll of your personal healthy hair habits. Your physical fundamentals fall into five categories: ! Detoxification ! Proper Hydration ! Supportive Nutrition ! Stress Reduction ! Adequate Rest Detoxification If youre loading up your body and thus, your hair with toxins, you can expect your hair to quit cooperating. Remember the 5 Minute a Day Healthy Hair Habit from Hair Again!? Youll want to get back into using Avedas Hair Detoxifier Shampoo at least once a month to strip your hair of product buildup and neutralize concentrated toxins on your scalp and in your hair. Ask yourself the questions, Where are the toxins coming into in my life? Are they at work, at home or maybe in my water or in the air Im breathing? Take the necessary steps to terminate your volunteer status as a human filter for these toxins. Consider adding the ultimate detoxifier to your diet: at least an ounce of pure, fresh wheatgrass juice taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. I consider this a primary weapon in my ongoing battle against hair loss.

Hand-in-hand with detoxification goes our old friend, hydration. Proper Hydration Are you getting enough water? Pure water, preferably distilled, taken in sufficient quantities is the key to optimum health for your hair and for your body. Im not talking about liquids like fruit juices, sodas, energy drinks, alcohol, coffee, tea or broths. I mean pure water, all by itself. Imagine the mess youd have if you never flushed your toilet! Its the same deal with your body: you need to keep the toxins and metabolic wastes flushed out so that your body and your hair can be healthy. The quickest way to bring your body to its proper level of hydration is to routinely drink at least eight ounces of pure water immediately after urinating. Yes, you will go to the bathroom more frequently, but you will soon recognize the feeling of being properly hydrated. You will then naturally crave water whenever your level of proper hydration drops below normal. Supportive Nutrition You learned detailed information about supportive nutrition in Hair Again!, and no doubt youve made some important changes to your diet; otherwise, you wouldnt have experienced the success youre enjoying. Fresh, whole, vital foods play key roles in maintaining healthy hair. However, its often challenging to maintain a healthy whole-food diet at work and at home, for the simple reasons that its not readily available or we just want something quick and easy when we get home instead of taking the time to make the kind of meal we truly need. Thats why its important to incorporate a high-quality mens multivitamin to help bridge the nutritional gaps in your diet. Take the time to talk with someone knowledgeable at the health food store and spend the extra money for the right multivitamin. Its not a cure-all for a bad diet, but it will keep things more or less in check until you rectify your eating habits. It is always better to get the nutrients you and your hair need from the right kind of foods rather than from a pill, because the nutrients in food are quickly absorbed and easily used by your body, whereas a pills absorption can be as low as 2%. But taking a multivitamin is better than doing nothing at all and remains an important part of feeding your hair if your diet is lacking. However, your body will have a tough time even with the right diet if stress and exhaustion keep it from properly digesting and assimilating your food. Stress Reduction In Hair Again! you learned how stress and the lack of sleep can aggravate hair loss, as well as diminishing or even blocking the benefits of a good diet or any of the great therapies we discussed.

Ask yourself, Am I allowing stress to creep into my life? We often become so accustomed to stress that we arent even aware of its insidious presence. Take positive steps to deal with your stress by first recognizing its presence and then identifying its actual sourcewhich can be quite different from your first assessment. Then work out your stress with a positive activity such as exercising, relaxing in a safe environment, getting massage therapy or meditating. The choices are varied but the choice to control and eliminate the stress in your life is not. Use a single-minded approach within the framework of your disciplined persistence. If you want to keep that hair, you wont invite stress into your life for an extended stay. Adequate Rest Adequate rest is essential to your good health and to keeping your hair. I realize you may have a particularly demanding schedule, but here we are back again to that old priority thing. How do you expect to enjoy good health, abundant energy and permanent hair restoration if youre exhausted all the time? If you cant address the quantity of your sleep, you may be able to address the quality of it through some of the sleep technologies now available. Beds with inflatable cells allow you to dial in your optimal comfort for a good nights sleep. Temper foam, originally developed for the space program, is now commonly available for mattresses and mattress covers. Temper foam conforms to your body and evenly distributes the pressure in such a way as to facilitate deeply relaxing sleep. You can also access sleep-oriented hypnosis programs on the internet that you can download to your MP3 player for ease of use. Also available are brainentrainment technologies available in the same format. Unlike hypnosis, brainentrainment causes your brain to synchronize with beat frequencies, inducing deep states of relaxation normally accessible only by profound meditation. The point is, maximizing the quality of your sleep will go a long way toward allowing your body to recuperate and heal itself. And that means keeping your hair.

Key #3: Focus on Healthy Hair Habits

In order to keep that hair youve worked so hard to regrow, you have to keep certain basics in place even if you dont have time to practice the Five Minute a Day Healthy Hair Habit you learned about in Hair Again! Foremost among those basics is your use of a boar bristle hairbrush. A boar bristle hairbrush has the unique ability to clean dirt out of your hair while properly distributing the sebum and stimulating your scalp - something synthetic bristles simply cannot do effectively. Its also possible you may be using a boar bristle hairbrush but havent been cleaning it properly. If thats the case, you are merely redistributing dirt, dead hair and dandruff through your curls with a brush made far less effective by neglect. Clean your brush with shampoo or castile soap on a daily basis and comb the hairs out of the bristles. Your scalp and your hair will be much healthier for this extra effort. Proper brushing is done with long, firm strokes from roots to tips. Using your boar bristle hairbrush, youll want to brush for a full five minutes twice a day, e.g. morning and evening. You may feel that five minutes of brushing is kind of silly, because after all, you can brush your hair into position in a matter of seconds and head out the door. But if you actually invest the five minutes to brush your hair, you will see two things beginning to happen: your hair brush sporting dirty bristles and hair that is really beginning to shine. Proper brushing for five minutes twice a day is, in and of itself, excellent scalp stimulation. But if you simply dont want to brush, you may wish to get back to one or more of the scalp exercises detailed in Hair Again! in order to keep your scalp healthy. My favorite is the olive oil scalp massage. forgotten it: The Olive Oil Treatment It really doesnt matter what type of olive oil you use. Just get whatever brand is available. Each night before you go to bed: 1) Warm up a capful or two of olive oil on your fingers by briskly rubbing the fingers of both hands together for about ten seconds. Here it is again in case youve

2) Gradually work over your entire scalp using your fingers, not your palms, vigorously massaging your hair at the roots and working the olive oil into your scalp. This will clean out your hair follicles. Add more olive oil to your fingers and warm up as needed. 3) Once your entire scalp has been thoroughly massaged, begin working the olive oil from the roots out to the tips of your hairs. Just use the oil already present, no need to add more. If you use the right amount of oil, most of it will be absorbed and you wont need to worry about staining your pillow. If youre worried about it, just lay a towel on your pillow for now until you get the feel for the right amount of olive oil to use. Thats it! Just go to sleep and in the morning, shower and shampoo as you normally do. Youll wash out all the broken-up sebum and other junk loosened by the massage and your scalp will start coming alive again. In Summary If you want to keep that hair, you want to make certain these three keys are operating in your life. ! Key #1: Organize Your Psychological Landscape ! Key #2: Address Your Physical Fundamentals ! Key #3: Focus On Healthy Hair Habits Implementing these three keys in your life has the happy result of a healthier, happier you, while virtually guaranteeing that you keep that hair! Good luck, keep on track and stay in touch.
