Personal Computer (PC) Conectors Pin Outs and Pin Diagrams
1 INTRODUCTION
1 Introduction
Hi and welcome to the PC Connectors Pin-Outs ebook. I hope you are
reading this book because you are searching for any one of the connector’s
Pin Diagram or Pin Out of your PC. If yes, this is the book where you will
get all the Pin-Outs of all the connectors in one neat book. So, you don’t
have to search for each and every connector in the internet and waste your
time.
I will try to update this ebook whenever new connectors comes into the
market, such as the USB 3.0 - SuperSpeed, which has been given in this
ebook.
I have not given the PCI, PCI-E and AGP Slots, because it has many
pins and has a large description. So, please search for these slots yourself in
the internet.
This ebook has been created using MiKTeX - LATEX, for Microsoftr Win-
dows, WinShell, LaTeX Editor and InkScape, Vector Graphics Editor.
I have made all efforts to use Vector Graphics for very good clarity for
printing.

Notes:
1. Pins 3,7,13 are pre-charge. Pin 11 may be used for other purposes than
GND.
2. Pins 1, 2, and 3 are optional as well, as evidenced by some adapter
cables that connect the drives to older PSUs. These are usually Y-
adapters that have the four-pin drive connector on the other end.

Notes:
1. The original floppy cable required that each drive was jumpered to
the right ID. But IBM come up with an idea to avoid jumpering the
floppies.
2. If wire 10-16 are twisted before the last connector the jumpering is
avoided. Each drive should be jumpered to act as Drive 2. If only one
drive is used then leave the middle connector free.

Basically, the PC Parallel (LPT) Port has it’s own address. Usually,
nowadays we are having only one LPT port and it’s address happens to be
’378’ in Hexadecimal, which is known as the Data Port also called as the
Base Address. The same Parallel Port also has two more addresses, they
are the Status Port and Control Port and their addresses are 0x379 and
0x37A respectively.

1. Full SATA speed for external disks (115MB/s have been measured with
external RAID enclosures)
3. Cable length is restricted to 2m, USB and Firewire span longer dis-
tances.
USB and Firewire require conversion of all communication with the ex-
ternal disk, so external USB/Firewire enclosures include an IDE or SATA
bridge chip that translates from the ATA protocol to USB or Firewire. Drive
features like S.M.A.R.T. cannot be exploited that way and the achiveable
transfer speed with USB/Firewire is only about half of the entire bus data
rate of about 50MB/s. This limited effective data transfer rate becomes very
visible when using an external RAID array and also with fast single disks
which may yield well over 70MB/s during real use.
Currently, most PC motherboards do not have an eSATA connector.
eSATA may be enabled through the addition of an eSATA Host Bus Adapter
(HBA) or bracket connector for desktop systems or with a Cardbus or Ex-
pressCard for notebooks.
eSATA does not provide power, which means that external 2.5” disks
which would otherwise be powered over the USB or Firewire cable need a
separate power cable when connected over eSATA.
