On Sundays, when the Hour of Terce from the Monastic Office has been concluded, Mass is prtceeded by a Procession which begins with the blessing of the Abbey Church and the people with Holy Water while the following Antiphon is sung: The Asperges Antiphon 'used on Sunday only, for the Blessing with Holy Water): T h o u Shalt sprinkle me, O L o r d , with hyssop, and I shall be made clean; T h o u Shalt wash me, a i d I shall be made whiter than snow. But on Sundays that fall within the Octave of the Nativity of the God-Bearer, (i.e., from Sept. 8/21 to Sept. 15/28), the following Antiphon is to be used in place of the above: I went d j w n into m y garden, to see the fruits o f the valley, and to see i f the vines h a d f l o w e r - e d , a n d the pom'granates were in blossom. Return thee, return thee, O Shulamite; return thee, return thee, that we may look upon thee.

While the Celebrant says some Offertory prayers quietly, a Hymn from ancient sources is now ^ung, most usually the Hymn: "Come, Holy Ghost." which is given in the Mass boor.

At the end of the Hymn, the people may join the Clergy in reciting the response to the Epicl esis prayer, as follows: Celebrant Brothers and sisters, pray f o r me, that m y and your sacrifice may be alike acceptable unto the L o r d O u r G o d . All: M a y the grace of the Holy Ghost illuminate thy heart and thy lips, that the L o r d may d e i g n to accept this sacrifice of praise at thy hands, f o r our sins and offences. The Secrets (to be said quietly by the Celebrant): y. L e t us pray. Cleanse us, O L o r d , we beseech Thee, by the effectual w o r k i n g of This Preseht Sacrifice; a n d by T h y mercy make us to be partakers thereof.
