Ifoneweretoexamineandcomparethereceptionofsomeonebeingalesbianinthe70sand today,itwouldbeeasytosayhowmuchmoreacceptingpeoplearenow.Iwasveryawareofhow differenttimeswereinthe70sforlesbians,butreadingTheWomanIdentifiedWomanby Radicalesbiansmadeitmoreclear.Readingthearticlenowwasinterestingforme,becauseIgottohear someonewhoactuallylivedduringthattimedescribetheirfrustrationwiththepeoplesperceptionof homosexuality.Iwantedtochoosethearticleformyresponsepaperbecausethereweremanythings thatintrigued,confused,andfascinatedme. Initiallyreadingthismanifesto,Iwasalittleconfused.Ididntcheckwhenitwaswrittenuntil after,soIwaswonderingwhysheseemedsoangry.Agoodmajorityofpeoplenowreallydontcare aboutonessexualorientation.Oratleastitsgettingtothatpoint.Although,onceIrealizeditwasfrom 1970,theangerseemedalotmorerational.However,thereweresomepartsthatstillconfusedme.The authorwrote,Dykeisadifferentkindofputdownfromfaggot,althoughbothimplyyouarenot playingyoursociallyassignedsexrole.Iunderstandhowtheybothmaketheimplicationabout failuretocorrectlyplayonesrole,butIwasconfusedabouthowdykeisdifferentthanfaggot.
