1.1 Overview of the MIL-9100X O
D
U
The MIL-9100X Media Conversion System is an 8-slot rack C
mount assembly, that can support up to eight different media T
converters, including a “master” (MiLAN’s MIL-4650) or a I
“slave” device (MiLAN’s MIL-4655). The master and slave O
devices are used to manage the MIL-9100X using SNMP. N

The media conversion system can accommodate media

converters that support Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit
Ethernet, ATM or a combination of all these technologies. The
MIL-9100X is “hot-swappable,” meaning you can remove and
replace media converters without powering down the device.

1.1.1 Features

The MIL-9100X offer the following features:

• Fits into a 19" rack in a 1U size slot

• One on-board power supply, with second bay for one

additional hot swappable, load balancing, redundant
power supply

• Diagnostic LEDs indicating power supply status

1.2 Media Converters

The MIL-9100X supports a variety of MiLAN designed

devices. Refer to the device’s install guide for configuration
and installation information for each device.

Chapter 2 gives installation information for a MIL-9100X

Media Converter System.

2.1 Installation Requirements I

N
S
Before installing the MIL-9100X, make sure you have the T
following: A
L
• MIL-9100X Media Converter System L
A
• Power supply (two if necessary) T
I
• Two, right-angle bracket assemblies O
• Eight, 440 × 1/4 phillips-head screws N

• Power cord
• Standard, Phillips screwdriver (not included)

2.2 Installing a MIL-9100X

To install a MIL-9100X Media Conversion System:

1. Install the two bracket assemblies to each side of the unit:

Line up the bracket holes to the holes on the chassis. Use

the phillips head screws (supplied) to secure the brackets.

Chapter 2

2. Install the MIL-9100X into a 1U size slot on a rack. Use the

phillips head screws (supplied) to secure the device.

Note: For safety reasons, MiLAN recommends that two people install the MIL-9100X. One person should hold the
unit, while the other secures the MIL-9100X. Also, excessive charring of the unit will damage internal
components and void the warranty.

3. Add the extra power supply (if necessary).

I
N 4. Populate the bays with media converters and/or SNMP
S agents. Refer to the device’s documentation for installation
T instructions.
A
L 5. Plug in the power cord (or cords) into unit and then to the
L
A appropriate power supply. Power 1 and/or Power 2
T LEDs illuminate.
I
O The device is ready for network connections.
N
2.3 Installing a Second Power Supply

1. At the rear of the print server, remove the screws securing

the faceplate and remove it from the chassis.

2. Slide the module into the bay through the guide rails.

3. Insert the module into the card-edge connector. Make sure

it is seated firmly.

4. Secure the module with the two screws located on the

faceplate of the unit.
