Climate
Wind Direction
Wind flow of Pulau Jerejak, Penang are from the South West direction most of the time, es- pecially during monsoon attacks. The wind speed is consistent flowing at 5 to 6kts every- day. There is always a slight wind flowing throw the trees in the site from the South West direc- tion of the island. It improves the ventilation of the site.
Interior Ventilation
Temperature
Warm air holds more water vapour than cold air. At such temperature, users will feel hot and sticky during the day time, especially during dry seasons like January and February. During the night time, users will feel cold and chilled due to the air moisture
Humidity
Humidity in Pulau Jerejak is high, because it is surrounded by the sea and amount of water evaporated is high caus- ing high air humidity. High Humidity can facilitates the growth of fungi and bacteria. It also causes condensation forms on the buillding materials which provides damages to the materials.
Rain
Average rain fall in Pulau Jerejak during September and October is the highest because it is the monsoon season. The amount of rainfall in Penang is high but there wont be any water clogs around the site be- cause the water collected will be transferred down the slope to the sea. Only some of the water are absorbed into the soil so the soil around the site is always moisture except for January and February.

Clay Brick
Building material is any material which is used for construction purposes. Many naturally occurring substances, such as clay, rocks, sand, and wood, even twigs and leaves, have been used to construct buildings. In this building, clay bricks and concrete is used as the primary construction material because due to its resistance to fire, cost, longevity, formability, and ease of transport.
Is a common material used to build structural walls and various masonry construction.
Is a material used in cladding the walls and constructing the floor slab.

GENIUS LOCI
sense of place
Defined by protective spirit of the place. The use of these energies, not only to make buildings self-sufficient, should enhance the quality of the architecture and our built environment. Our vision for future buildings is that they will 'live' on local resources only, and even more help to improve the local environment in terms of air quality, water quality as well as aesthetical quality. The building should be one system within the natural environment, a Genius Loci.

S
-Shading from sunlight, wind control and active evaporation. -Different view is obtained compared to other sites -Less noise, calm and peacefull with less sound from the ocean tides. -Oxygen production, pollution reduction.
W
-Site belong to a tropical climate moisture could cause structure to decay fast. -Site is extremely humid, causing swelling, corrosion, rust, oxidation. -Time taken to reach the site is longer compared to others.
O
-Being in the jungle, there is possibility to design a skin to blend in the contour. -With great scenic quality, any form would have adequate view. -Building can be more energy efficient because of sunlight and oxygen produced by trees which have an active cooling factor. -Potential biological pest such as snakes and lizards.
T
-Soft soil causing possibility of the building foundation unstable.

Conclusion
Based on our research, we have concluded that building our building near the shore wouldnt be a problem for our chosen site because the wind direction isnt facing our site and without the strong wind directly coming to our site, we know that the waves wouldnt be as strong st compared to the waves from South West. Due to the views of our chosen site, we realized that it would be best for us to design our building facing East or South East. Despite the building facing East or South East, there wouldnt be a problem of getting direct sunlight due to the fact of the height of the trees at our site. The trees also helps cool down the area of our site. For circulation, the easiest way to get to our chosen site is by taking a ferry. Unless the visitors want to use the trail from the resort to our site.
For the activities based on our site, it is clear that having outdoor activities besides going to the Detention camp would not be advisable BUT designing a VIC that can both be used as a place for visitors to gain knowledge and also for the kids to run around in an open free space in the VIC might just change the site to a more interesting place. We have discovered that there are 3 main cultures in Jerejak Island. Therefore, the VIC could address each culture separately or together.

CULTURE
The main reason why we chose the site is because it radiates various poetic elements. Compared to other sites, our site is located far away from Penang. As compared to the Detention Centre, we cannot design a VIC that is too far from the city, therefore triggers curiosity of the visitors. Our aim is to replicate the feelings - fear and avoidance towards towa the island back then.
