Designing the Solution: 1. Oliver is trying to deduce cost effectiveness of the pool by analysing hot weather trends in past.

This solution will help Oliver to justify the expenses by calculating average length of summer season in past years. 2. Relevant data from meteorology department includes highest temperature in each month during past 5 to 1 years and dates on which this temperature occurred. !. "xcel #ayout$ % & ' " ( ) * 1 2 ! , 5 / 0 1 2 1 -onth .anuary (ebruary -arch %pril -ay .une .uly %ugust +ear 1 +ear 2 +ear ! +ear , +ear 5 %verage Temp

11 3eptember ,. i. Range 'hec4$ i.e. 5ata is in valid range e.g. 6n row 17 year should be four digit and between 121 82 11. ii. "xistence 'hec4$ "ach cell should contain valid data iii. 5ata type chec4$ +ear9s temperature and %verage Temp is in float. iv. Restricted data entry$ :;% < it could be if excel sheet is separate for each year= 6n these all test can be performed manually7 i.e. &y chec4ing personally7 or either electronically by applying predefined rules in excel to alert user. The easiest way to apply these rules is to use if8else statements. 5. Test data includes data from columns year7 month and *ighest temperature from provided data sheet. This test data is then used in excel to chec4 following tests$ i. 'ompleteness test$ 6t shows that test data complete information re>uired by user. %lso that graphic form of data provide sufficient information to achieve the goal of this study7 and is clearly labelled for user. 6n this case temperature of all months of different years recorded should be available and graphical representation should be there to easily understand the trends. ii. Reliability test$ To chec4 data is reliable or not7 it9s source should be reliable. 6n this case as source is department of meteorology so it is reliable. iii. ?resentation testing$ the intended result either it is in tabular form or graphic representation should deliver intended purpose. i.e. user can easily deduce climatic trends of previous years. iv. (unctionality testing$ To chec4 that data and operations applied on it are functioning properly7 in other words formulas and functions applied on data are correct and giving right answers. 6n this case it should be ensured that correct average temperature of each month is calculated. v. %ccessibility Test$ 6t means that it is accessible and easy to understand for all users. 6n this case it means that all friends of Oliver7 to whom he will show this data should be able to easily understand this solution.

vi. Timeliness$ 6t means that data should not be too old that it is of no use i.e. when collecting temperatures if data is collected from year 11 s then it is of no use as it is too old and since then there is surly major trend change in climate. 3o data to be collected must be of recent past years. vii. Relevance testing$ 6t means that data collected should be relevant to desired purpose. (or example if station number of all sensors from where data is collected is also stored then it is not relevant viii. @sability testing$ 6t means that solution should be easy to use7 i.e. spreadsheet should be correctly labelled and protected against accidental deletion or changing of data etc. ix. 'ommunication of message$ 6t means all re>uired information is presented in solution and is clear to understand. /. -easure of effectiveness$ "ffectiveness of solution depends on results7 i.e. if results show that all measures of effectiveness are achieved then it means solution is fully effective and vice versa. %chived 'ompleteness Readability %ttractiveness 'larity %ccuracy %ccessibility Timeliness 'ommunication of message Relevance Reliability ?artially %chived :ot %chived
