The AIR TRAFFIC MGMT. (ATM) sector is administered in two levels; 1. 2. Headquarters- located in Putrajaya Operations- located at various stations within Peninsular and East Malaysia
The Malaysian airspace (ruang penerbangan) is divided into the Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu Flight Information Regions (FIR). Where operations are associated with air traffic control units. There are 2 air traffic control centres; in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, a sub-centre in Kuching as well as 12 Control Towers in Peninsular Malaysia, 4 in Sabah and 8 in Sarawak.
ATM - responsible for the provision of air traffic service for the safe and efficient conduct of flight within Malaysian airspace - the Chicago Convention 1947. Air Traffic Service encompasses: 1. 2. 3. 4. air traffic control, advisory, flight information and alerting service.

BASIC AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER JOB DESCRIPTION. Control air traffic on and within vicinity of airport and movement of air traffic between altitude sectors and control centers according to established procedures and policies. Authorize, regulate, and control commercial airline flights according to government or company regulations to expedite and ensure flight safety. DUTIES AND TASKS ARE: 1) Initiate and coordinate searches for missing aircraft. 2) Inspect, adjust, and control radio equipment and airport lights. 3) Review records and reports for clarity and completeness, and maintain records and reports as required under federal law. 4) Alert airport emergency services in cases of emergency and when aircraft are experiencing difficulties. 5) Analyze factors such as weather reports, fuel requirements, and maps in order to determine air routes. 6) Check conditions and traffic at different altitudes in response to pilots' requests for altitude changes.
SKILLS NEEDED FOR ATC PERSONNEL ARE: 1) Speaking -- Talking to others to convey information effectively. 2) Active Listening -- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. 3) Coordination -- Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions. 4) Operation Monitoring -- Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. 5) Operation and Control -- Controlling operations of equipment or systems. 6) Critical Thinking -- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 7) Writing -- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. 8) Active Learning -- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problemsolving and decision-making. 9) Monitoring -- Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. 10) Judgment and Decision Making -- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. 11) Complex Problem Solving -- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. 12) Reading Comprehension -- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

ATC KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCED REQUIRED: 1) Transportation -- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits. 2) Telecommunications -- Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems. 3) English Language -- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. 4) Physics -- Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and subatomic structures and processes. 5) Computers and Electronics -- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. 6) Mathematics -- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
