NET STARTING WITH THE CD: Use the readme.htm for more detailed explanation about using the Sanskrit Tutor CD. When you start the CD the main screen gives you many options to chose from. Base d on your level and preference you can select the options listed below to begin the CD. If you click on a SANSKRIT word it will play the word in Sanskrit. The CD contains SANSKRIT lessons as well as examples and quizzes to help you learn the language. The NOTES button provides additional valuable information on the t opic being discussed. It is strongly suggested you use the NOTES button for extr a information. You can also select the HELP button to guide you through the CD. The CD contains numerous Sanskrit words and 430 Sanskrit alphabet animations, bo th groups combined have 5800 sound files. There are 16 conversation steps that h ave audio and visual references. The verb examples include 110 verb forms with a udio aide. In addition there are 47 audio case ending examples of nouns and pron ouns. Listed below are the options at the start of the progam. BEGINNERS ADVANCED BEGINNERS GLOSSARY VOCABULARY SIMPLE SENTENCE DICTIONARY Each of the above options are described below including the excercises and quizz es for the lesson. BEGINNERS INTRODUCTION: A brief introduction about the Sanskrit language, its origin, classification etc., is given in this section. Various references ar e also available in this section. Quiz This has both questions and answers on INTRODUCTION. ALPHABETS: Classifications, Pronunciations, Numerals, Conjunct Consonants & Vowel Signs are discussed in this section. Exercises on ALPHABETS On On On On Quiz ON ALPHABETS section for questions and answers on this section. Alphabet Recognition for recognition of alphabets. Word Recognition for recognition of words. Numerals for excercises on Numerals. Pronuncation for pronunciation excercises.

ANIMATION: In this section, animation for writing of alphabet vowels, consonants and combin ed letters are illustrated. There are examples along with the animations. In add ition the examples are also explained so the student can see how the letter is u sed in the word. There are also pronunciations for each alphabet. This section will instruct the student on how to write the alphabet. BASIC GRAMMAR: This section teaches Pronouns, Interrogatives, Adjectives and Verbs. Exercises on BASIC GRAMMAR section helps the student to form simple sentences. Go to STEP-0 of Exercise on ADDITIONAL LESSONS to form simple sentences using no uns and verbs. The student can form about 2500 SENTENCES using the available tab les. SUBHASHITANI: These are Sanskrit poems of well sayings/morals. There are 26 poems available. T he student can play the poems for their sound and meaning. VOCABULARY: This section has a list of commonly used sanskrit words with sound. They are gro uped under different categories. SLOKAS: Verses of praise. There are 16 slokas available. You can play the sloka for it's sound and meaning. DICTIONARY: Important and frequently used Sanskrit words with meanings in English. Translit eration is also included. ===================== ADVANCED BEGINNERS The Introduction, Alphabets and Animation section is the same in the BEGINNER se ction and is repeated in the ADVANCED BEGINNER section. SANDHI: Means joint. It is a combination of two letters that results in a change during combination. Exercises on Sandhi with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON SANDHI. QUIZ ON SANDHI. Question & Answer about the SANDHI section NUMBER: The Sanskrit language has three numbers. The Dual Number is a special concept of Sanskrit language. EXERCISE - ON NUMBER. GENDER: There are three genders in Sanskrit. The classification of genders isn't strictl y based on their status. Certain non living beings are classified either as masc uline or feminine. Exercise on Number with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON NUMBER. PRONOUNS: Pronouns are alternative nouns. There are different pronouns such as Personal, I nterrogative, Demonstrative etc. Exercise on Pronoun with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON PRONOUN. CASES: These are called vibhaktis (case endings). The words that have case endings are called Subanta. Exercise on Cases with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON CASES. SHABDHAMANJARI: In this section, some of the commonly used subanta shabdas for all three genders and also a few pronouns are given. Click on the play button to learn the shabad as in the traditional way. The Meaning force for each case ending is also given along with an example. KARAKA: This denotes the relationship between Noun and Verb. We have karakas for all cas e endings except the genitive case. Exercise on Karakas with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON KARAKAS. ADJECTIVES: The Adjective qualifies the object. It takes the same gender, case and number of the noun which it qualifies. TADDITA: This is called the secondary word. It is derived from the original form of the w ord by adding a suffix to the word. Exercise on Taddita with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON TADDITA. VERBS: There are about 2000 verb roots in Sanskrit. They are classified under 10 groups . An introduction to the verb and it's classification is given in detail. Exercise on Verb with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON VERBS.

VERB EXAMPLES: This section contains different forms of words and paradigms of verbs in various tenses and moods. Meaning force for each type of verb along with an example is provided with pronunciation. AVYAYA: The word which cannot be declined is called Avyaya or indeclinable. Exercise on Avyaya with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON AVYAYA. UPASARGA: Upasarga means prefix or preposition. Exercise on Upasarga with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON UPASARGA. INTERROGATIVES: In this section, some of the commonly used interrogatives with usage examples ar e provided. Exercise on Interrogatives with examples is available under TERROGATIVES. SAMASA: Samasa means a compound word or a compound. Exercise on Samasa with examples is available under EXERCISE - ON SAMASA. PANINI: Panini was a great grammarian of Sanskrit. His work, Ashtadhyayi, describes the grammar of the language. Subhashitaani, Vocabulary, Slokas and Dictionary are covered same as in the BEGI NNERS section ================== READ ME -SIMPLE SENTENCES There are 16 lessons called steps.(step-0 to step-15). Each one of the steps giv es examples of sentence formation. STEP-0 In this lesson you can form more than 2000 simple sentences with nouns in the no minative case and verbs in the present, past and future tenses. STEP-1 Sentences using pronouns of masculine gender -singular,dual and plural. STEP-2 Sentences using pronouns of neuter gender singular,dual and plural. Synonyms for a few words are also introduced. STEP-3 Sentences that have a noun, object and verb of the masculine gender in all three numbers. EXERCISE - ON IN

STEP-4 Pronouns of second and third person are used. STEP-5 Pronouns of the first person feminine gender sentences. STEP-6 Conversation between a teacher and students.
