Rigid Steel Conduits (RSC): 1. Conduits shall conform to NEC Article 344 not less than 1 inch (20 mm) diameter. Conduits shall be hot dipped galvanized, complying with ANSI C80.1. The steel shall be galvanized after cutting and threading. All saddles for surface mounted installation of RSC shall be of the spacer bar type with same finish as the conduits. A tapped earth connection facility shall be provided in every box. All bends shall be cold set made using circular tee conduit boxes. Provide with a coupling, adapters, junction boxes, bushings, connectors, elbows, expansion joints, gaskets, hubs, locknuts, plugs etc.

PVC Coated Rigid Steel Conduits 1. Conduits shall comprise a permanently bonded PVC barrier of corrosion protection to galvanized rigid steel. The coating shall be bonded PVC applied to conduit which has been treated with an epoxy primer to ensure a permanent bond with plastic. The coating shall be continuous, except for the threads and shall be free of flaws. The adhesive strength of the bonding shall be equal to or greater than the tensile strength of the coating. PVC coating shall be a 1 mm (40 mil.) bonded coat per NEMA RN1 (Type A).

2. All PVC conduits fittings and accessories shall be obtained from the same manufacturer approved and equal under Project Manufacturers List. No conduit shall be less than (20 mm) inch diameter. Fittings and accessories for PVC conduits shall include, but not be limited to, the adapters, junction/pull boxes, bushings, couplings, elbows, nipples, plugs, seals, etc. All connections and terminations of the PVC conduits and fittings shall be by means of the manufacturers standard adaptor. All boxes shall have brass thread inserts for the fixing of accessories or covers. All saddles shall be of the spacer bar type and from the same manufacturer approved and equal under Project Manufacturers List, as that of the conduit which they are being used to secure.

Liquid Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit: 1. Conduits shall be constructed from galvanized steel core and continuous liquid-tight PVC jacket. Aluminum cable tray shall be designed, manufactured, rated, and tested in accordance with NEMA VE1. Method A (Loading to Destruction) shall be used for determining the rated load capacity. Fittings: 1. Fittings shall include but not be limited to adapters, bushings, connectors, couplings, elbows, expansion joints, gaskets, hubs, lock-nuts, nipples, plugs, seals, unions and breathers. Fittings for all metallic conduits shall be of malleable iron or a mixture of gray iron and cast steel. Fittings for rigid steel conduit shall be threaded, hot-dipped galvanized. End fittings and unions for flexible couplings shall be of forged brass and feraloy or steel. Fittings for liquid-tight flexible steel conduits shall be nylon jacketed.

Supports: 1. Channels shall be fabricated from structural steel in 12, 14 or 16 gauge as required. Steel fittings shall be die formed from hotrolled steel of structural quality. An epoxy resin paint shall be bonded to the metal by an approved method such as cathodic negatively charged electro deposition process. Materials and finishes shall meet ASTM specifications and NEMA standards for metal framing. All other supports and accessories shall be fabricated for the application, such as concrete inserts, hangers, straps, clamps, anchors, bolts, screws, etc., and shall be hot dipped galvanized malleable iron.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Inspection A. Conduits and fittings shall be free from objectionable lines, striations, bubbles, welds, and other manufacturing defects that would impair the service of the conduit. The bore of the conduit shall be circular in crosssection with smooth interior surfaces free from rough and flaky areas. The conduits and fittings shall be free from all substances that injuriously effect any wire or cable covering.

Preparation A. Cut and Threads: 1. 2. All cut ends of conduits shall be reamed to remove rough edges. All field threads shall be full and continuous. Field threads shall be of the same lengths as a factory cut thread of a similar sized conduit. Threads shall be field cut using a standard conduit cutting die with a 62 mm per meter (3/4 in.) taper per ft. Raw threads should be protected with CRC "Zinc-It" or equal. Running threads are not permitted for any applications. A minimum engagement of five full threads shall be made at all fittings.

Field Bends: 1. Field bends may be made with a hand bender on 38 mm (1-1/2 in.) and smaller conduits only. Larger size conduit shall be bend with a machine bender or be factory supplied. Heating of metal conduit to facilitate bending is not permitted. All bends shall be made so that the conduit is not injured, and so that the internal diameter of the conduit will not be effectively reduced. 3. Installation A. All conduit runs are shown diagrammatically to outline general routing of conduits. Avoid interfering with pipes, ducts, structural members or other equipment. Deviations shall be made in accordance with Saudi Aramco instructions and at no extra cost to Saudi Aramco. Crushed or deformed conduits shall not be used. Conduit and fittings shall be installed in accordance with NEC.

D. PVC conduits shall be used only where cast into slabs, built or chased into walls etc. Where conduits are surface run in ceiling voids, shaft spaces, plant rooms etc. galvanized RSC or EMT shall be used. Adaptation between PVC and metal conduits shall be through metal boxes. Metal conduits either Rigid Steel Conduits (RSC) or Electrical Metallic Tubings (EMT) shall be installed in exposed locations as required. EMT shall be used inside buildings, generally above suspended ceiling, with the exceptions of below grade within the building structure or external underground or at exposed locations liable to be damaged mechanically. RSC shall be installed exposed on surface at all such locations where conduits are liable to be damaged mechanically. Protective bushings shall be provided on PVC coated steel horizontal stub outs and bells shall be provided on PVC horizontal stub outs. Verify exact stub up location and termination requirement for items and equipment being served, for all necessary power and control. Where conduits turn out of or penetrate a slab, they shall be not less than 65 mm on centers. Location and sizing of conduit sleeves passing through floors and walls that are not shown on the Drawings shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. All sleeves, unless otherwise noted, shall be rigid galvanized steel extended 150 mm above floor and capped when not in use. Space between conduits and sleeves shall be closed with duct-seal at a minimum 50 mm deep at top and bottom of conduit sleeve. Only watertight flexible conduits shall be used and shall conform to NEC Article 350 & 351. Last portion of connection to motors or other vibrating equipment shall be by a flexible conduit, connected to rigid conduit by connectors. Conduit fittings shall be used as required and matching the conduit system being used. Metallic conduits entering gasketed boxes or equipment enclosures shall be provided and terminated with gasketed hubs, with bonding screws. Conduits are not to cross pipes, vents or openings. Make holes for conduits passing through walls, floors and ceilings with approved filling fire resisting material to all thickness. Metallic conduits entering non-gasketed sheet-metal boxes or enclosures shall be provided and terminated with general purpose hubs.

Concealed conduits shall be installed such that only 2 cross at a given point, and be sufficiently within slab to prevent slab cracking. Supports shall be provided to alleviate stress on cables where they enter a conduit or other enclosure from the tray. Location of supports for cable tray systems shall be in accordance with the recommendations of NEMA VE2 or NEMA FG1. The maximum spacing between expansion joints shall be based on a temperature differential of 55oC (100oF) and expansion gap settings shall be in accordance with the recommendations of NEMA VE2 or NEMA FG1, based on a minimum temperature of 0oC and a maximum temperature of 55oC. Threads of metallic conduits shall be of sufficient length to allow conduits to butt together within couplers. Support all metal conduits every 10 ft (3 inches). Pull boxes shall be provided in conduits not exceeding 3m in length. Pull boxes shall be used at maximum 12m spacing and shall be accessible at all times.
