Centre allocates Rs. 1,000 cr for skill devp of 10 Lakh youth in this fiscal
New Delhi : Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that the Centre has allocated 1,000 crore rupees for the skill development of 10 lakh youth in this fiscal. The Finance Minister said this while inaugurating a rural skill development centre at Amaravathiputhur in Tamil Nadu set up by the National Skill Development Corporation. He said, only 15 per cent of students get their skills upgraded and get jobs abroad, while 20 per cent do not have any future due to lack of skills. Mr Chidambaram said, NSDC is currently training youths in 17 sectors to improve and develop their skills and help them get jobs and also to regulate jobs in 367 sectors.

Kavaratti : A meeting was conducted under the Chairmanship of Shri. H. Rajesh Prasad, Administrator on 20th November at Secretariat Conference Hall. The meeting elaborately discussed various pending issues of Minicoy Island with all the department under the Administration. Speaking on the occasion Administrator directed the heads of the department to visit other islands in time to time and understand the problems of the people. Administrator directed them to take immediat appropriate action to sort out the problem of the people in all the islands. He recalled the

experience during the out reach programe at Agatti and various issues were sorted out from the island onwards. While discussing the problems of ship ticket Administrator directed the concerned to make an analysis on all the island and take appropriate action. Asarpal Singh explained about the theme of the year Inclusive Growth and the arrangements made to showcase Lakshadweep in tune with the theme inside the pavilion. He was also presented with mementoes by the

Director Pavilion on behalf of the Administration. After visiting the showcased items Member of Parliament expressed his satisfaction and appreciated the efforts made by the tourism department and staff to bring out the pavilion successfully in the India International Trade Fair. He also recorded his comments on visitors book as I am extremely delighted to visit the Lakshadweep Pavilion IITF -2013, Pragati Maidan. I am impressed by the display of Lakshadweep products- Tuna Cans, Handicrafts and Coir Mats. I extend my good wishes to tourism department for their efforts and endure. New Delhi, Mr Mukherjee said, upgradation of infrastructure is essential to boost morale of the work force, enhance productivity and improve quality of products. Stating that coir neither poses health risks nor creates pollution, he said due attention is being paid to the development of environment-friendly technologies and production processes. The president mentioned that adequate allocations have been made in the 12th plan to expand this traditional agro-based cottage industry further. On the occasion, Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprizes, MSME, K H Muniappa said that MSME sector provides livelihood to around 80 million people engaged in 36 million enterprizes. He said this sector has earned foreign exchange to the tune of 1116 crore rupees through exports during last financial year.

Building Bridges-International Collaboration of Palliative Care


Kavaratti: Thanal Charitable Organization has pioneered palliative care services in Lakshadweep few months back and now this NGO has extended its arms to global level by a project named Hamrahi. It is a joint venture of Australasian Palliative Link International, a global organization and Pallium India Trust, a national NGO in India. The term Hamrahi means fellow traveller, to travel with those in pain and suffering and help them to lead a better life. Hamrahi is a collaboration to establish links between Australian palliative care doctor and nurse teams and Indian doctors and nurses who are setting up new services in India. Its aims to support the development of fledgling palliative care services in India, and the individuals who are working to establish this service. The APLI has been providing mutual exchange of knowledge, advocacy and research in Asia Shri.Achada Ahmed Haji President-cum-Chief Counsellor, District Panchayat has touched emotional pain of the isolated one and solace of those in pain when we give company to them. Enhance quality of higher education, dont just stress on quantity: President


New Delhi : The President, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has stressed the need to enhance the quality of higher education and not just stress on quantity. Addressing the 9th convocation of National Institute of Technology at Durgapur in West Bengal, the President said that all budding scientists and technicians need to be patriotic and have the zeal to serve the nation. Mr. Mukerjee regretted that despite having 30 National Institutes of Technology and 15 Indian Institutes of Technology none of these institutions find a place amongst the top 200 centres of learning in the world. The President said that the Human Resources Development Ministry is working towards betterment of universities and centres of learning in India on a war footing.

Hajj Pilgrims Accorded a Warm Reception at Agatti


Agatti: A grand and warm reception was accorded to Hajj-Pilgrims of Agatti after the completion of Hajj-2013 from Holly Macca on 17th November 2013 at Eastern Embarkation Jetty by Chairperson, DP/VDP Members, Members of Merchant Association Agatti and the people of Agatti Island. Minioy: As a part of the celebration of 124 th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru functions were organized in various schools in Minicoy Island as the Day also celebrated as Children Day. Shri O. Ibrahim Manikfan, Chairperson Village (Dweep) Panchayat was the Special Guest in all the Educational Institutions. After the school functions Chairperson along with team of officials visited Anganwadi centers and shared the happy on the

occasion of the celebration childrens day with the kids. While interacting with Anganwadi workers on the performance and functions of Anganwadi the Chairperson advised the teachers to give more attention and extra care towards the betterment of the kids than any other concern. He expressed happiness and congratulated the teachers for their dedication and sincerity towards the maintenance of the centers with clean and hygienic atmosphere.

Minicoy: The Village (Dweep) Panchayat Minicoy has introduced a card system to facilitate the General Public in order to procure products /items produced by the departments such as Agriculture Unit, Fisheries Unit, Animal Husbandry Unit, and Central Plant Crops Research Institute with effect from 14th November 2013. This will help to control the sales of limited products like vegetable and dairy /poultry items from the concerned departments. The cards in different colours such as Green (Agri), Yellow (Fisheries), White (Animal Husbandry)

and Pink(CPCRI) were distributed in a special function held at VDP Sadan on 14 th November 2013 in connection with Childrens day celebrations. Shri O. Ibrahim Manikfan, Chairperson V (D) P inaugurated the system by distributing the card in different colors to the house holds. Here after the concerned head of the departments will sale their products to the public through this card. Since the new system is introduced with an intension to facilitate the islanders Chairperson requested the public to explore the maximum utilization of the new system.

National Lok Adalat settles over 28 lakh pending cases


New Delhi : The National Lok Adalat organised throughout the country settled a record 28.26 lakh cases pending in various courts. In a statement, the National Legal Services Authority said the three Lok Adalat benches constituted in the Supreme Court settled 5l cases, while other benches across the country set a world record by amicably settling over 28 lakh cases. The authority however clarified that the final picture is yet to emerge. Due to the ongoing assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the 7.97 lakh cases referred to the national Lok Adalat would be taken up for disposal on the 30th of this month.

WHEREAS it appears to the Administration of Lakshadweep, that the land specified in the Schedule below is needed for a public purpose viz: acquisition of land for India Coast Guard (Phase I) at Minicoy Island. Now therefore, notice to that effect is hereby given to all of whom it may concern in accordance with the provisions of sub section (1) of Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act (1 of 1894).
