IF Combiner Quick Installation Guide

IF Combiner Quick Installation Guide

The IF Combiner enables transmitting signals from two AUs to a single 2x2 or 4x2 ODU in the same BTS. The IF Combiner can be installed with both outdoor and indoor BTSs and is lightning protected. This Quick Installation Guide is intended for experienced installers. For more information refer to the relevant sections in the System Manual and Installation Manual. CAUTION ONLY experienced installation professionals who are familiar with local building and safety codes and, wherever applicable, are licensed by the appropriate government regulatory authorities should install outdoor units and antennas. Failure to do so may void the product warranty and may expose the end user or Service Provider to legal and financial liabilities. The manufacturer and its resellers or distributors are not liable for injury, damage or regulation violations associated with the installation of outdoor units or antennas.

Coaxial IF cable Installation tools Installing the IF Combiner

You can install the IF Combiner units:

On a pole up to 4 diameter using metal bands In a rack using the IF Combiner panel. Each panel can accommodate 12 IF Combiner units, thus supporting three sectors.

Mounting the IF Combiner Unit on a Pole

1 Use the metal bands to attach the unit to the pole, the pair of TNC connectors facing downward (Figure 3). Fasten and
secure the bands.

2 Use the Tie-wraps to bind the cables to the pole.

Installing the IF Combiner with the IF Combiner Panel in a Rack

1 Remove the plastic cap from the hole in the panel where the IF combiner unit is to be installed (see Figure 4). 2 Remove the nut from the single TNC connector of the IF Combiner, and insert the connector through the hole on the panel. Return the nut and fasten it (see Figure 4). 3 Mount the panel in a 19 rack and fasten using the supplied screws. To install the panel in a 21 rack, disassemble the ETSI bracket adapters from the panel and rotate them to enlarge the extension of the panel (see Figure 4); mount the panel in the
rack and fasten the screws.

Connecting the IF Combiner Cables

Guidelines

Attach colored marking tape to the cable for easy identification and maintenance. If the unit is mounted on a pole, use Tie-wraps to bind the cable to the pole. If extension is required, connect an extension cable to both connectors of the same pair.

CAUTION
Do not connect IF cables to the calibration (CAL-1 and CAL-2) connectors.
