Admissions Criteria
All schools must provide information which explains how they decide which pupils will be offered places
if they receive more applications than they have places available. This information is normally called
“admissions criteria”. The admissions criteria will vary from school to school.

Voluntary Aided Schools, Foundation Schools and Academies

Each of these schools makes its own admissions arrangements. A description of
the different admissions criteria for these schools is included on the school pages
in this booklet. For example, you will note that church schools give priority to
pupils whose parents have active church involvement.
You can obtain full details of the admissions criteria for the voluntary aided and
foundation schools and academies in Croydon by contacting each of them direct.

Community Schools
The Council is responsible for admissions to the four community schools listed
at the top of page 17. Decisions on the admissions to these schools are taken
by Croydon local authority and not by the schools. A brief description of the
admissions criteria for all community schools is set out below:
Priority in the allocation of places is given in the following order:
• looked-after children (i.e, children in public care at the date of application)
• siblings
• medical cases
•g
eographical - those pupils living nearest to the school. (See page 18-19 for the
full Community Schools admission criteria).
Note: The first 18 places at Westwood Language College for Girls (ie 10% of the
intake) will be allocated on the basis of performance in a test which demonstrates
an aptitude for languages.

Schools situated outside Croydon

These applications will be dealt with under the different arrangements
made by the out-borough schools and/or other LAs.
