IAME & THE WORLD CUP A STEP AWAY

LAST WEEKEND (4TH-6TH SEPTEMBER), AT THE CIRCUITO INTERNAZIONALE DI NAPOLI, THE WORLD CUP FOR THE KZ1 AND KF3
CATEGORIES WAS HELD. THE DRIVERS WITH IAME ENGINES, IN KF3, TOOK SECOND AND THIRD PLACES. HOWEVER IT WAS A
SHAME THAT NYCK DE VRIES, WHO HAD DOMINATED FOR THE ENTIRE WEEKEND, RAN INTO PROBLEMS IN THE FINAL

T
here was plenty of drama in this
weekends race at Sarno which awarded
the World Cup for the KF3 category: the
“favourites” (including the seasons dominant driver,
with his IAME engine, Nyck De Vries), could only
stand and watch others celebrate on the podium.
This notwithstanding that De Vries (Zanardi/Parilla)
was once again the absolute protagonist of the
weekend: But only up to the start of the final. From
there his kart had problems. He didn’t give up and
managed to finish fifth, but with a soar taste in his
mouth. So it was the ever quick Dennis Jake (Top
Kart/Parilla), finishing second, and the surprise of
the weekend Pierre Gasly (Sodi/Parilla) who took
the last available ticket for the podium destination,
who carried the IAME flag.
QUALIFICATION & PRE-FINAL
The many qualifying heats were dominated by
one man: Nyck De Vries. By the end the Dutch
driver would have recorded 0 penalties. Not a
single mistake, not a single hesitation. First. Dennis
Jake finished in an overall third place, while Pierre
Gasly drove well in all the heats apart from one,
in which he received a penalty big enough to see
him start from 15th spot. He would make up for
it.In the pre-final De Vries only lost first position at
the start and only for a few meters, and then from
there led all the way and nobody would challenge
him. He finished with the fastest lap (it would
remain the fastest race lap of the weekend even
after the final) and with the fastest top speed. The
runner-up was the other protagonist with a Parilla
engine, Dennis Jake, who finished in an excellent
second place. Gasly finished 12th.
FINAL
The story of the final seemed to have already been
written. However, in Sport nothing can be written
in advance. Nyck De Vries realised that something
was not right during the warm up lap just before
the start of the race. His kart stuttered (and his top
speed in the race would result to be slower than in
the pre-final): he wouldn’t show the form he had
showed all weekend. An excessive act of caution
induced the mechanics to change the engine in
the pause between the pre-final and the final,
but the new engine was set-up for wet races. This
fact forced the driver to drive a defensive race
in which he was overtaken many times: in the
tighter parts of the track he was forced to overtake
as much as possible because he was regularly
re-passed on the straights. In the end he would
not get above sixth place, finally managing to
take a fifth place which he certainly didn’t find
satisfactory. However Dennis Jake took control
of the IAME situation: he started second, fought
for the lead, was involved in a contact and lost
several positions (on the fourth lap he was 8th).
Then he started his come back, he was second
with two laps to go (but it was too late to hope for
a win): well done anyway. Pierre Gasly also did
well, starting from the back. After just a few laps
he was in first place (7th lap), but then lost ground
after having pushed the kart and his tyres over the
limit. He finished third behind Jake to complete a
podium that could have been a Parilla hat-trick...
CONCLUSION
The words of IAME Technical Director IAME Andrea
Bossaglia: “A shame. This is the second title we
have gifted to our competitors this year. It was a
simple human error: after the pre-final Nyck had
some problem with the ignition, but he was held in
parc ferme for too long and we didn’t have time to
fix it. So we chose to change the engine, but… the
new engine was tuned for wet weather use, very
penalising to use in the dry!! I am not angry with
anyone, we feel sorry for ourselves but above all
for our driver who, in such a condition, drove a
miraculous race”. He then added: “Anyway we are
happy with the performance of our IAME engines:
even without what would have been a merited
victory for Nyck, we managed to place two drivers
on the World Cup podium”.

IAME E LA COPPA DEL MONDO A UN PASSO

LO SCORSO WEEKEND (4-6 SETTEMBRE), SUL CIRCUITO INTERNAZIONALE DI NAPOLI, SI È CORSA LA COPPA DEL MONDO PER LE
CATEGORIE KZ1 E KF3. I PILOTI MOTORIZZATI IAME, IN KF3, HANNO CHIUSO CON UN SECONDO E UN TERZO POSTO. PECCATO,
PERÒ, CHE NYCK DE VRIES, CHE AVEVA DOMINATO PER TUTTO IL WEEKEND, SIA ANDATA STORTA PROPRIO LA FINALE

ella gara che questo weekend ha
assegnato la Coppa del Mondo per la
categoria KF3 a Sarno, non sono mancati
i colpi di scena: i cosiddetti “favoriti” (compreso
il dominatore della stagione, motorizzato IAME,
Nyck De Vries), hanno solo potuto guardare
gli altri esultare sul podio. Eppure proprio De
Vries (Zanardi/Parilla) è stato protagonista
assoluto anche questo weekend: ma solo fino
alla partenza della finale. Poi il kart proprio
non andava. Non ha comunque mollato e ha
chiuso quinto, pur rimanendo con l’amaro in
bocca. A tenere in alto i colori IAME ci hanno
quindi pensato il sempre veloce Dennis Jake (Top
Kart/Parilla) che ha chiuso secondo e la sorpresa
Pierre Gasly (Sodi/Parilla) che ha staccato
l’ultimo biglietto valido con destinazione podio.
QUALIFICAZIONI E PREFINALE
Le tante manche di qualificazione vedono un
solo dominatore: Nyck De Vries. Alla fine il
pilota olandese accumula 0 penalità a suo
carico. Mai un errore, mai un cedimento.
Primo. In terza posizione assoluta finisce Dennis
Jake, mentre Pierre Gasly conduce bene tutte le
manche a parte una, nella quale accumula una
penalità tale da farlo partire solo 15º. Saprà
rifarsi.In prefinale, De Vries perde la testa della
corsa solo in partenza e per pochi metri, poi
resta là davanti fino alla fine senza che nessuno
lo impensierisca. Chiude con il giro più veloce
(rimarrà il giro più veloce in gara del weekend
anche dopo la conclusione della finale) e con la
velocità massima più alta. Alle sue spalle l’altro
protagonista motorizzato Parilla, Dennis Jake,
che chiude con un ottimo secondo posto. Gasly
chiude 12º.
FINALE
La finale sembra una storia già scritta. Invece,
nello sport di scritto non c’è nulla. Nyck De Vries,
già dal giro di ricognizione prima della partenza
capisce che qualcosa non va. Il kart stenta (e in
effetti la velocità massima risulterà più bassa della
prefinale): non è lo stesso di tutto il weekend.
Un eccesso di cautela induce infatti i tecnici al
cambio del motore nella pausa tra prefinale e
finale, ma quel motore è adatto alle gare sul
bagnato. Questo costringe il pilota a una gara
in difesa con decine di sorpassi: infatti nel misto
è costretto a superare più piloti possibili, perché
sul dritto viene puntualmente ripassato. Alla fine
non va mai oltre la sesta posizione e conquista
un quinto posto che, comunque, non lo lascia
certo soddisfatto. A prendere in mano le redini di
IAME, ci pensa però Dennis Jake: parte secondo,
lotta per la prima posizione, viene toccato e
quindi perde diverse posizioni (al quarto giro
è 8º). Poi inizia la sua rimonta e, a due giri
dalla fine, è secondo (ma è tardi per sperare in
qualcosa di più): bravo comunque. Bravo come
Pierre Gasly che, partito dietro, in pochi giri
recupera fino alla prima piazza (7º giro), salvo
poi cedere qualcosa per aver portato il kart e le
gomme così al limite. Chiude terzo dietro Jake
e completa un podio che poteva essere tinto
completamente di color Parilla…
CONCLUSIONI
Parla il direttore tecnico IAME Andrea Bossaglia:
“Peccato. Quest’anno è già il secondo titolo
regalato agli avversari. È stato un banale errore
umano: Nyck aveva problemi all’accensione
dopo la prefinale, ma è stato trattenuto troppo
in parco chiuso e alla fine non avevamo tempo
di sostituirla. Così abbiamo cambiato il motore,
ma… il nuovo motore aveva tarature per la guida
sul bagnato, altamente penalizzanti in condizioni
d’asciutto!! Non sono arrabbiato con nessuno, ci
dispiace per noi ma soprattutto per il pilota che,
in quelle condizioni, ha fatto una gara che ha del
miracoloso”. Poi aggiunge: “Comunque siamo
contenti delle prestazioni dei nostri motori IAME:
anche senza quella che sarebbe stata una giusta
vittoria di Nyck, siamo riusciti a piazzare due
piloti sul podio alla Coppa del Mondo”.

IAME A UN PAS DE LA COUPE DU MONDE

LE WEEK-END DERNIER (4-6 SEPTEMBRE), SUR LE CIRCUIT INTERNATIONAL DE NAPLES, S’EST DÉROULÉE LA COUPE DU MONDE DANS LES CATÉGORIES
KZ1 ET KF3. LES PILOTES MOTORISÉS IAME , EN KF3, ONT OBTENU UNE DEUXIÈME ET UNE TROISIÈME PLACE. DOMMAGE, TOUTEFOIS, POUR NICK
DE VRIES, QUI AVAIT DOMINÉ PENDANT TOUT LE WEEK-END ET POUR QUI HÉLAS, JUSTEMENT LA FINALE A MAL TOURNÉ

ors de la course où aurait été décernée la
Coupe du Monde pour la catégorie KF3 à
Sarno, on a assisté à de nombreux coups
de théâtre: les soi-disant “favoris” (y compris
le leader de la saison, motorisé IAME, Nick de
Vries), ont dû se contenter de regarder les autres
exulter sur le podium. C’est pourtant bien De Vries
(Zanardi/Parilla) qui a été le protagoniste absolu
ce week-end aussi: mais seulement jusqu’au départ
de la finale. Le kart n’allait pas. Il ne s’est pas
laissé abattre et a terminé 5ème, bien qu’avec
amertume. A porter haut les couleurs de IAME
Dennis Jake (Top Kart/Parilla), toujours rapide qui
a terminé deuxième et, à grande surprise, Pierre
Gasly (Sodi/Parilla) qui a décroché le dernier bon
numéro pour le podium.
QUALIFICATION ET PRE-FINALE
Les nombreuses manches de qualification sont
dominées par un seul pilote: Nick De Vries. A la
fin il termine sans aucune pénalité. Aucune erreur,
aucune défaillance. Premier. En troisième position
absolue Dennis Jake, tandis que Pierre Gasly mène à
bien toutes les manches, à part une, où il a accumulé
une pénalité telle qu’il sera contraint à partir de la
15ème place seulement. Aucune crainte, il saura
récupérer.Lors de la pré-finale, De Vries perd la
place de tête dès le départ et pour quelques mètres
seulement, et il reste là devant jusqu’à la fin sans que
personne ne le dérange. Il termine en remportant le
tour le plus rapide (ce sera le tour le plus rapide du
week-end même en finale) et avec la vitesse maximum
la plus haute. Derrière lui l’autre protagoniste motorisé
Parilla, Dennis Jake, qui termine avec une excellente
deuxième place. Gasly termine 12ème.
FINALE
Le sort de la finale semble déjà décidé. Mais en
sport rien n’est jamais acquis. Nyck De Vries, dès le
tour préliminaire de reconnaissance comprend déjà
que quelque chose ne va pas. Le kart a du mal à
s’élancer (en effet la vitesse maximum sera inférieure
à celle enregistrée à la pré-finale): ce n’est plus le
même kart. Un excès de précaution va amener les
mécaniciens à changer le moteur lors de la pause
entre la finale et la pré-finale, mais c’est un moteur
fait pour les courses sur les pistes mouillées. Et le pilote
va être devoir rester sur la défensive pendant toute la
course et effectuer des dizaines de dépassements: en
effet sur les portions mixtes du circuit il est contraint
à doubler le plus grand nombre de pilotes possible,
car sur les rectilignes les autres pilotes dépassent à
nouveau. A la fin il ne parviendra pas à aller au
delà de la sixième position et s’adjuge une cinquième
place, qui le laisse absolument insatisfait. Dennis Jake
prend en main les rênes de IAME: il part deuxième, deuxième fois que nous faisons cadeau du titre à nos
et se bat pour prendre la première place, il subit un adversaires. Une banale erreur humaine : Nyck avait
accrochage et perd plusieurs positions (au quatrième des problèmes à l’allumage après la pré-finale, mais
tour, il est huitième). Il remonte et, à deux tours de la il a été retenu trop longtemps dans le parc fermé et il
