INTERNAL EXAMINATION GUIDELINES 2014 (Secondary)

ASSESSMENTS AND EXAMINATIONS Assessments 1. 2. Two Assessments for Secondary 4. One Assessment for Secondary 5. Assessment 1 in Semester One and Assessment 2 in Semester Two. Assessments are informal. Questions to be set based on topics taught.

Mid-Year, Year End and Trial Examinations 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Mid-Year Examination for Secondary 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Year End Examination for Secondary 1,2, and 4 One Trial Examination each for PBSMR and SPM. The Mid-Year Examination is held at the end of Semester One and the Final is in Semester Two. The Trial Examinations for Secondary 3 (PBSMR) and Secondary 5 (SPM) are in Semester Two. These examinations are official examinations and should be conducted formally. The questions must be set based on the PBSMR and SPM format, and according to Blooms Taxonomy. Questions from past years internal exam papers are not allowed to be reproduced wholesale.

Topics, marks/results 1. 2. All subject teachers are required to key-in the scope of the topics to be tested in the Homework journal for every assessment and examination. All subject teachers are required to provide the assessment/examination marks/results to their respective HRT by the dateline stipulated in the examination schedule, and also to post them in the Smart School Portal.

Exam Secretary to send for printing 1. 2. Please follow the dates for each process stated above in the Important Dates for Examination of the year handout. All subject teachers have to prepare an answer scheme with the assessments/examinations questions

Stapling, checking, labeling and packing of the examination paper. 1. 2. 3. 4. The Examination Secretary will print and store the question papers. Subject teachers need to fill in the relevant forms for examination purposes. Setters need to arrange, staple, pack and label the examination papers before the examination date. Every set of examination envelope must contain: i. The correct number of examination questions papers for students in every class (with 1 extra copies for each class) ii. OMR answer scripts (for Exams and Trials ONLY) and other relevant papers. iii. Students Attendance/ Invigilation Form

Examination Invigilation. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Invigilators must be in the exam hall 15 minutes before the exam starts. Students must be in the exam hall 10 minutes before the exam starts. Teachers starting an examination must collect the question papers and other relevant items from the examination operation room in the morning. All collections must be recorded in the relevant forms. Ensure that there are no books, bags or any prohibited items in the exam hall / rooms. Students are not allowed to bring their pencil cases into the examination rooms/hall. Students are not allowed to borrow any items from other students during the examination. Students who do not follow examination rules and regulations will be reprimanded. Copying is a serious offence. The results of anyone found guilty of this offence will be withheld and parents will be informed. Invigilators must always be vigilant to avoid any dishonesty. Invigilators are reminded that: i. Hand phones and laptops are NOT allowed in the examination hall or rooms. ii. Marking exercise books or answer scripts during invigilation is not allowed. iii. Reading newspapers, magazines or storybooks during invigilation is prohibited.

Guidelines for discipline problems during exam. 1. Disciplinary cases/ Cheating / Copying Teachers who are invigilating must write an official report. Any material or proof of cheating must be taken from the student as evidence. Submit : a) three copies of the Report and the evidence to the Deputy Principal. b) one copy of the Report to the Head of Discipline and Principal each and another to the Head of Exam for record purposes. c) Marks will not be recorded in the Smart School Portal. Absentees Assessments: Students may re-sit any assessment papers if they are absent (subject teachers are required to make arrangement with the Exam Secretary). The invigilator is required to inform the HRT/ST concerned. Marks will be recorded in the Smart School Portal. Examinations / Trials: Students will be given the missed exam papers to do at a later date. However, marks will not be recorded in the Smart School Portal. Marking of the exam papers. a) Teachers must record and sign the relevant forms when collecting answer scripts for marking. b) No students are allowed to mark any exam papers especially objective answers. Recording of exam marks. a) Subject teachers must key-in the final marks into the portal before the deadline. b) Homeroom teachers must double check the marks before publishing c) Subject teachers and Homeroom teachers must keep a copy of all the marks for their own reference.

Report Card Day

Students Progress Report 1. All Progress Report files have to be collected from the students by the HRT and to be kept in the Exam Room. 2. On Report Card Day, the HRTs must record the parents / guardians attendance. Analysis 1. After each internal examination, HRTs must complete the mark sheet analysis for individual students. 2. The standardized mark sheet will be provided by the Head of Exam. General Students who are not taking certain papers, especially from Secondary 4 and 5, must be in their respective classes and the subject teachers must be with them according to the invigilation time table.
