CDM Co-ordinator Services

Aedas Building Consultancy provides professional advice, detailed recommendations and solutions on the successful implementation of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.
Our CDM Co-ordinator services are designed to ensure not only legislative compliance, but added value. Value is imparted via our specialisms in design, occupational safety, construction safety, assessment of risk and end user documentation. Our key knowledge in this sector enables successful integration of safety in design at very early project stages. One of the major amendments in CDM 2007 is the change of planning supervisor to the new role of CDM Co-ordinator, to assist clients in discharging their duties, create an empowered and key advisor and provide advice and support to the client, as a pivotal gure in the project team. Our CDM Co-ordinators are highly motivated professional individuals who prepare and administer legislative documentation on projects of any scale. We also prepare strategies on how all CDM duty holders can discharge their individual duties in a professional manner.

Contractor Competence
Contractors are now required to demonstrate competence under the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007. Aedas Building Consultancy can drive the process for you.
We have recognised that outsourcing has become the norm for maximising resources and prots for many organisations. Assumptions are often made that this also means that health and safety liability is delegated to service providers, which is incorrect. Duties can be delegated to the outsourcing contractor, but responsibility remains with the organisation. Any company that employs the services of a contractor to carry out work on their behalf (whether for cleaning, catering, construction or other services) has a legal obligation to take reasonable steps to ensure that person is competent. The experience of Aedas Building Consultancy across the construction industry allows our clients to benet from an unrivalled level of expertise in contractor assessment and monitoring. Our services in this area include: yy Provision of Pre-Qualication Assessment Questionnaires yy Vetting of responses yy On site monitoring and feedback to the client yy Audits of contractors health and safety management on client sites

Training
Legislation has put greater emphasis on the requirements of competence and the need for appropriate training. It is therefore essential that time devoted to training is both cost effective and rewarding.
Aedas Building Consultancy has developed core training and seminar modules that are delivered by hands-on professionals. Courses can be tailored to meet any specic requirements. In particular, anyone involved with construction work, and who wishes to further their understanding of the roles and responsibilities dened in the CDM Regulations, would benet in sharing our knowledge through the training platform. That would include those who wish to revisit their initial training and understanding of the regulations after the recent changes in 2007. We also provide specialist focus sessions for clients and designers with countless practical examples, drawing on expert witness skills and signicant intervention with the Health and Safety Executive experience of enforcement policy. Our courses are delivered by industry professionals. You choose the date, the venue, the content and even the training consultant. Typical numbers for our courses are between 2 - 15 delegates, but we have fullled obligations for the training of large multi-national organisations.

Fire Risk Assessment

The objective of the Aedas Building Consultancy Fire Management team is to help employers, developers and building owners to identify, assess and manage re risk, enabling them to take advantage of opportunities and reduce the likelihood of unforeseen circumstances.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005, the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 (amended 1999) and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations now requires virtually all employers and property managers to assess the risk of re in their premises. Establishments with ve or more employees must record the assessment in writing which should be available to occupiers and authorities at all times. This emphasises that responsibility for re safety now rests rmly with the employer or person in control of the premises, with less reliance on the Fire Authorities to issue re certicates. Our Fire Risk Assessment involves a thorough investigation of the property and the management systems. We can provide a re audit of a group, company, division, or even a department within an organisation.

Compliance Reviews
Aedas Building Consultancy are skilled in corporate compliance reviews for large and small organisations across many industrial sectors.
Our reviews are based upon the safety management lifecycle in that it appraises the strengths and weaknesses of a companys attitude to the management of safety across its business. Gaps are identied and an action plan is formulated with priority time scales for completion. We can undertake services to successfully deliver the action plan or fully support the implementation by the organisation. Aedas additionally supports the corporate compliance review by offering strategic risk management services. Our services advise and support clients to manage the risks identied by the corporate audit or review. Our aim is to generate a positive safety culture within the organisation, and therefore downward trends in accident management.

Policies and Procedures

Effective health and safety policies contribute to business performance. Aedas has developed a series of services designed to measure this. Our review measures responsibilities and relationships to establish compliance.
Compliance levels are assessed and risk ratings are provided for each section of the review using a trafc light risk rating system: yy RED - risks are not controlled, little or no compliance. yy AMBER - corrective action required, some compliance. yy GREEN - minimal intervention required, broadly compliant. Where SMEs have grown and moved to the next level of business performance, we can also provide new Safety Management Systems to ensure compliance is appropriate to the size of the organisation and the service they deliver.

Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP)

In England, from 6 April 2008, you must have a site waste management plan (SWMP) for all new construction projects worth more than 300,000.
If the project you are working on is priced at more than 300,000 (excluding VAT), work must not start by law, unless there is a SWMP in place. Aedas Building Consultancy provides differing levels of advisory service to aid both clients and principal contractors to assist them in meeting the SWMP requirements and so avoiding nancial penalties. As the client, you are responsible for: yy producing the initial SWMP before construction work begins yy appointing the principal contractor yy passing the SWMP to the principal contractor yy updating the SWMP at least every three months if you decide to manage the project yourself. If you are the principal contractor, you are responsible for: yy obtaining relevant information from subcontractors yy updating the SWMP at least every three months as the project progresses yy keeping the SWMP on site during the project yy ensuring that other contractors know where the SWMP is kept yy allowing other contractors and the client access to the SWMP during the project yy handing the completed SWMP back to the client at the end of the project yy keeping a copy of the SWMP for two years At the end of the project, you must review the plan and record the reasons for any differences between the plan and what actually happened.

Whilst constructions waste is becoming more and more expensive to dispose of, it is also amounting to a waste of valuable resource. As landll gets more scarce, we have to be innovative in how we manage out site waste - Allan Hunt, Director
