Operating Instructions
Description

1 Description
Design and function
The electronic frequency converters TURBOTRONIK NT
13 SP are used to drive the turbomolecular pump TUR-
BOVAC 50.
The electronic frequency converter converts the single
phase mains voltage into a three-phase AC voltage for
driving the asynchronous motor of the TURBOVAC.
The frequency converter is operated according to a fixed
cycle: the motor is driven for approximately 1 s and in the
following period of 0.1 s all monitoring measurements
are performed.
The operational statuses „Mains voltage applied -
POWER“, „Acceleration - ACCEL“, „Normal - NORMAL“
and „Failure - FAIL“ are indicated by LEDs.

Fig. 1 TURBOTRONIK NT 13 The NT 13 SP provides two pressure-dependent swit-

ching points via relay outputs.

using this relay output, then the pump system is protec-
ted from excessive pressure, for example in the case of
a large leak, an open high vacuum connection or a mis-
sing picture tube to be evacuated.

voltages over 42 V to the connecting termi-

Troubleshooting

3 Troubleshooting
Symptoms Probable Cause Recommended Corrective Actions
1. POWER LED is not on. TURBOTRONIK not connected to the mains. Connect to the mains.
Fuse has blown. Exchange the fuse. To do so, remove the front and rear
panel of the TURBOTRONIK.
For removal of the front panel unscrew screws (3/1) and
remove the front panel. Depress catches (3/2) somewhat,
pull out the inner section of plug (3/4) some millimetres.
Disconnect the flat cable from the plug.
Pull the pcbs. out of the housing. Unscrew the pcbs so
that they may be folded apart. Exchange the fuses.
Fold the pcbs. back together again, screw them tight and
install them. Install front and rear panels again.
