You :ust admit tough, the principle is the exact same no matter how much you wat te product.
My Reply back
While I do agree te federal goverent shoud be ver limited in its interference with
anything, ths is not one of tose cases. The goverent has a job of protectig your rght to
privacy. It is one of the few tngs te goverent is supposed to do. I have no problem with
the goverent tllig corporations that tey c not punish us i we don't allow them to spy on

us.

I
I

The same guy replying back to n1e
The goverent has no such duty to protect your right of privacy in voluntary transactions
between private citizens/entities. You have no more right to a xbox without a caera tha a
right to vegetables without geneticaly modifed orgasms. Nor do you have a right to cable.
And what if you did? Tae it to the logic conclusion, what other freely producedpurchased
items would you then have te right to force (by the State, legislature) producers to make
according to your whim? I don't like beig spied on, so I won't buy the product. Tat's where
the analysis stops.
My reply back
It does when it is the one using said corporations to spy on te citizens. Cable companies ae
also not entirely private entities. They ae hghly subsidized by big goverent. If tey were
truly private entities many non.spyig ones would pop up as soon all te major ones sted
spying. Ever home would have a choice of 2 or more cable providers but that isn't the case for
most
p
eople.
I don't eat GMO' s but would agree the goverent ha no rght to make companies label GMO
products. Free Maket wctks ]ust fne becaue non-GMO foods make sue it is witen a over.
As a consuer you're lef wt may choices.
Cable companies ae completely diferent. It's about the contol of inforation. If cable
compaies tomorow could tell you tat you eiter put in a cera or tey stop providing you
TV /Interet access, you're at a serous disadvatage i life. t te way thgs ae going, tht
isn't completely fa-fetched.
I a truly fee societ we would't need ts, but ta's not where we ae in hstor.

exists trough State action. So maybe it is a diferent aalysis wt cable. But that is one of a
very few industes where tat is the case. (Thally)
It as an interesting back and forh. I tn I would actually argue tat even in a case like te Xox
One, as a consumer you shoud have te option of buying that hadwae without the spy ca on it. I
th at some point, a conversation ha to take place about te true role of the constitution ad te
fed ral goverent. I'm one of those tat believes te federal goverent j ob is to protect the bill of
rig Sometimes the few need to be protected fom te masses when it comes to the bill of rights. If
80 of te population decided tomorow tat they don't cae about their right to privacy ad every

req red you to have those pas operationa in order to use te device, what happens to the 20% of
pe le tat don't want their privacy stolen fom tem? I'm talking about a stove, a microwave, a
gerator, your cable box, your AC unt. Ts seems far fetched for now, but 20-30 years fom now, I
do 't know that it will be as fa fetched. I completely uderstand that i a tly fee republic, ts
wo ld never happen. But tat's not what we have. We have a societ flled wt idiots tat don't cae
ab t ay of teir rights ad will give tem up for te latest gadget ad a goverent that is loving
the|r new abilities to spy on the people. I t people need to be cautious when it comes to te knd of
leg slation. As I pointed out earlier in my replies, I don't t foods that contain GMO's should have
to e labeled. I'm more concered about a person's right to privacy in their home.
Fe eral Nullifcation eforts mounting in states . . . .
Im gine the scenario: A federal agent atempts to arrest someone for illegally selling a machine gun.
Ins ead, the federal agent is aested -chaged in a stte cout with the crime of enorcing federa gun
la s. Fafetched? Not as much as you might t.
Th scenario would become conceivable if legislation pased by Missouri's Republican-led Legislatre
is s

gned into law by Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

Missour legislaion is perhaps the most extreme example of a states' rghts movement that has
be spreading across te nation. States ae increingly aopting laws that puror t nullif feder
s -. seting up intentional legal conicts, directing local police not to enforce federal laws ad in
rar cases, even treatenng criminal chages for federagent wo dae to do teir jobs.
A Associated Press analysis found tat about fou-ff of the states now have enacted local laws that
dir ctly re]ect or ignore federal laws on mai]ua use, gu contol, health insuace requirements ad
ide stadads for driver's licenses. The trend bega i Democratic leang Califora with a

Go . Sam Brownback tis spring becae te frto sign a measue treatening felony charges against

So e states, such as Montaa and Aizona have sad "no" to the fes aain ad agan passing

ove state ones hasn't stopped
some tates fom fouting tose federal laws -someties successfly.
20 states now have medical majuaa laws allowing people to use pot to teat chonic pain ad
other ' lments -despite a federal law tat still criminlizs majua distibution ad possession.
Cedin gound to the states, President Baack Obama's anstation ha made it kow to federal

authorities have repeatedly delayed implementation of te 2005 Real ID Act, a ati-terorism
law set strgent requirements for photo identifcation cads to be used to boad comercial fights
or r federal buildings. Te law ha been stymied, in pa, because about haf the state legislatues
have pposed its implementation, according to te National Conference of State Legislates.
Abou 20 states have enacted measues chalenging Obama's 201 0 health cae laws, may of which
speci tcally reject te provision mandating tat most people have healt insuance or face ta penlties

Afer Monta passed a 2009 law declaig tat federl freas regulations don't appy to gus made
ad pt in that state, eight other states have enacted simila laws.
The upreme Cou rued in 1 997 that local police could not be compelled to cary out provisions of a
feder gun contol law. But some states are now atemptig to take that a step fther by assering tat
certa n federal laws can't even be enforced by federa authorities.
A ne Kasa law maes it a felony for a federal agent t atempt to enforce laws on gus made and
ow d in Kasa. A simila Wyoming law, passed in 201 0, made it a misdemeaor. Te Missour bill
also ould declae it a misdemeaor crime but would apply more broadly to all federa g laws ad
reg ations -pat, present, or ftue that
"
innge on te people' s right to keep ad bea as. "
U. S. General Eric Holder sent a leter in late Aprl to the Kasa goveror wing that the
al goverent is willg to go to cour over the nev lav'.
"
Kasa may not prevet federa
emp oyees ad ofcials fom caing out their ofcial responsibilites," Holder wote.
So woul happen if a local prosecutor actly chages a federal agent for doing his or her job?
"
T y're goig to have problems if tey do it -there's no doubt abut it," sd Michael Boldin,
exe tive director of the Tenth Aendment Center, a Los Angeles-based entit that promotes states'
rgh s. Theres no federa cour i the countr that's going to say tat a state ca pull ts of. "
Yet ttes may never need to prosecute federa agents i n order to mae teir point. If enough states
