National Child Passenger Safety Day (years later becoming a weekly event) began in 1984 when President Reagan issued a
Presidential Proclamation on child passenger protection. Since then, the United States has come a long way in assuring that
our children are protected while in vehicles. In 1997 the Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Program began. In
the United States there are now more than 34,000 technicians certified. Nashville Metropolitan Police Department currently
employs 12 certified technicians, to include the officers of the El Protector Program.
Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for children age 3 to 6 and 8 to 14. Parents and caregivers should
always make sure that children are placed properly into a child safety seat that is properly installed into the vehicle. Sadly, some
parents believed their child was safe and secure in a seat and did not find out that they were incorrect until it was too late. Do not
let this happen to you or your child. Even if you feel confident you have installed your seat correctly be aware that according to
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 3 out of 4 seats are installed improperly. Listed below are dates and times
that you can go to certain locations to make sure your child safety seat is being properly installed. Outside this week, if anyone
has questions or concerns please feel free to call 615-862-7738 to set up an appointment to have your child safety seat inspected
by one of our certified technicians.

TRAFFIC SECTION NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 13, 2009

These are examples of brochures available through the Governors Highway Safety Office and some of the ones that have been
handed out to principals and parents at schools throughout Davidson County. The brochures simplify the Child Restraint Law.
Hopefully the more brochures that are disseminated the better the understanding of Child Restraint Laws. The brochures are also
available in Spanish, as seen above. The Spanish versions were sent to the principals of elementary schools and handed out to parents
as well. Copies of these brochures and other information regarding various traffic issues can be obtained at www.tntrafficsafety.org.

Puesto en una lista abajo son fechas y tiempos que usted puede ir a ciertos lugares para asegurarse que su
