CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

1. Background

human body temperature ranges from 36.5 to 37 degrees Celsius. However, under certain conditions can increase the temperature of the human body is not as usual. What happens when the body temperature too high? But the body can experience heat exhaustion which can increase the body temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). When exercising in the outdoor heat, body temperature can rise. When not supported with enough drink and rest then the body can be experiencing overheating or heat exhaustion that can result fatal. The body is usually able to efficiently reduce the temperature itself by sweating. But when you are hot and do not immediately replace the fluids lost through perspiration, the body's cooling system becomes overwhelmed and the body temperature can rise above safe levels, according to University of Maryland Medical Center.

CHAPTER II DISCUSSION

A. Understanding Fever is a condition when the temperature exceeds 370C body caused by disease or inflammation. Fever is a condition where the body temperature (measured at the mouth) is higher than 37.5 Celsius on a person in the rest. When the temperature measured in the armpit, the temperature is higher than 37.3 Celsius. When the temperature measured at the ear, the temperature is higher than 37.8 Celsius.

B. Causes fever :

1. respiratory tract infections such as flu 2. Infection of the intestine 3. Urinary tract infections 4. After immunization

C. Sign and Symptoms

Children with a fever the body will feel warm. Other symptoms that usually accompany a fever include: 1. heavy sweating 2. Muscle cramps 3. Headache 4. Rapid heartbeat 5. Faintins 6. Stomach cramps.

7. Shivering and teeth chattering (if a high fever) 8. Muscle and joint pain 9. Sweating (when the temperature decreases) 10. Drowsiness and weakness 11. Decreased appetite

D. Home Care

1. Make sure your child lots to drink and rest. 2. For fever with a temperature of 40C, warm water compresses for 15 minutes. 3. Avoid bathing your child if he had a high fever, as it will likely raise his fever. 4. use a thin clothing 5. Measure your child's temperature every four hours at least.

Attention: 1. Do not use alcohol or cold water to lower body temperature. 2. Do not give aspirin to your child or other drugs containing salicylates.

When to take the child to the doctor? Check with the child to the doctor if: 1. Your child aged less than three months. 2. A fever lasts more than three days 3. The temperature of children rises to 40 C. 4. The child shows symptoms such as: skin rashes, shortness of breath, convulsions, cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, etc..

E. Compressing the right way:

1. Give fever-reducing medication 30 minutes before compressing. 2. Compress it using a cloth moistened with warm water temperature from 29.4 to 32.2 degrees Celsius and has been squeezed, then wipe the body, arms and legs. 3. Do not use cold water or alcohol to compress, because alcohol will be absorbed by the skin or respiratory inhaled, can cause coma.

if the child's body temperature above normal (370C) then you can do at home when the warm water compress on the child's body temperature does not drop down (above 40 C) then immediately take medicine.
