STATEMENT BY H.E.

PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA ON THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC

My Government welcomes the step taken by President Michel Djotodia of the Central African Republic (CAR and his Prime Minister Mr! "icolas #ian$aye to step aside yesterday% &' th (anuary% )'&*% to pave way towards a lastin$ solution to the conflict that has destabili+ed that country% cost lives and wrou$ht untold sufferin$! , salute the re$ional efforts championed by the -conomic Community of Central African .tates (-CCA. /eads of .tate throu$h the Peace Consolidation Mission in the Central African Republic for their support to the 0uest for peace% security and stability in the CAR as well as the African 1nion2led ,nternational .upport Mission in the CAR! 3e call upon the lawmakers of the CAR who have now been entrusted with the responsibility of choosin$ the leadership that will ensure that the country is on a firm path towards peace and stability% to work to$ether for the national interests and the citi+ens of the CAR! 3e call upon all parties to focus on their responsibilities particularly with respect to the protection and safe$uardin$ of the civilian population% and the promotion of peaceful and harmonious coe4istence amon$ all sections of the CAR society! 3e support the re$ional peace initiatives and call upon the African 1nion and the international community to continue supportin$ all efforts in addressin$ the humanitarian crisis and maintain their en$a$ement and assistance to the CAR to $uarantee her future peace and stability!
