Definition of Essay
An essay is usually a short piece of writing. It is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can be literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. Like the novel, the essay is a literary device for saying almost everything about almost anything, usually on a certain topic. Although essay is a written form of the authors point of view, it is impossible to give all things in full for a single essay has its limit. It must also be factual and concrete particular. Essay is divided into two categories! Essay as a pedagogical tool and the non literary essays. Each category is divided into classes. "escriptive, #arrative, E$emplification, %omparison and %ontrast, %ause and Effect, %lassification and "ivision, "efinition, and many others. &isual Arts, 'ilm, (usic, )hotography, and Employment fall under non literary.

#arrative writing tells a story. In essays the narrative writing could also be considered reflection or an e$ploration of the author's values told as a story. *he author may remember his or her past, or a memorable person or event from that past, or even observe the present. +hen you're writing a narrative essay, loosen up. After all, you're basically ,ust telling a story to someone, something you probably do every day in casual conversation. -se first person and talk it through first. .ou might even want to either tape record your story as if you were telling it to someone for the first time or actually tell it to a friend. /nce you get the basic story down, then you can begin turning it into an essay. If you feel that you lack life e$perience, then you may choose to write about someone else or write about an observation you've made about a recent event. .ou could write about your children, your parents, or your favorite sport or hobby. *he important aspect to remember is that you should have a story. In a successful narrative essay, the author usually makes a point.
