Logical & Data Interpretation

DIRECTIONS for questions 26 to 30: Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.
The following bar graph gives the details of the number of students who join class XI and pass out of class XII, in a
school, for six years - from 2000 to 2005. After studying for one year in class XI, all students are automatically
promoted to class XII (i.e., no student is detained in class XI). However, the students can successfully complete class
XII and pass out only if they perform satisfactorily in class XII. The pass percentage of any batch which joined (i.e.,
in class XI) during the given period (i.e., from 2000 to 2005), in its scheduled year of passing out (i.e., after exactly
two years of joining) is at least 60% and at most 80%. For example, if 10x students join class XI in 2000, then the
number of students in that batch who pass out in their scheduled year of passing, i.e., in 2002, would be between 6x
and 8x (both included). Further, all students pass class XII within three years of their joining class XI. None of the
students were absent for the exams during the given years. Students are admitted only into class XI.

Four friends - A, B, C and D - live on an island, in which each person belongs to one of the three tribes - Truth
tellers, Alternators and Liars. Truth tellers always tell the truth, alternators alternate between true and false
statements, in any order, and liars always lie. A, B, C and D earn their respective livelihoods as a Snake Charmer, a
Witch doctor, a Lion hunter and a Sooth-Sayer, not necessarily in the same order. When asked about their tribes and
how they earn their livelihoods, each of them made exactly three statements. A made his first and third statements in
the local language, which was incomprehensible, but made his second statement in English. However, B, C and D
made all their statements in English.

DIRECTIONS for questions 43 to 45: Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.
The following tables give information about the total turnover, the total number of employees and the average
salary of the employees of the top 100 companies in the country.

In each table, the value in any row of the second column denotes the number of companies for which the value of the
parameter mentioned at the top of the first column is less than the corresponding value given in the first column. For
example, the fifth row of Table-I shows that there are 72 companies having turnover of less than Rs.700 crore.

DIRECTIONS for questions 46 to 50: Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.

The table above shows the relationship between two series of numbers (α-series and β-series). 13 numbers, from A
through M, belong to the α-series, while 13 numbers, from N through Z, belong to the β-series. Each of the α-series
numbers is compared with each of the β-series numbers using the set of symbols {<, ≤, >, ≥, =, ≠ }, where the symbols
have their usual mathematical interpretation.

The comparison is done such that, on the left hand side of the symbol in any cell, the α-series number from the
corresponding row is written and on the right hand side of that symbol, the β-series number from the corresponding
column is written. For example, A < R, D > S and so on.

46. How many numbers of the β-series are greater than Z?

(1) 2
(2) 5
(3) 10
(4) 12
(5) 9
Solution (Your Answer: 3)

47. How many numbers of the α-series are smaller than G?

(1) 1
(2) 2
(3) 3
(4) 4
(5) None of these
Solution (Your Answer: 5)

48. How many numbers of the α-series are less than J and definitely greater than W?

(1) 0
(2) 1
(3) 3
(4) 4
(5) 2
Solution (Your Answer: 3)

49. How many numbers of the β-series are equal to at least one other number of the same series?

(1) 3
(2) 5
(3) 6
(4) 4
(5) None of these
Solution (Your Answer: 2)

50. Let all the 26 numbers belonging to either series be ranked from 1 onwards in the ascending order of values,
such that the numbers with equal values share the same rank. Which of the following represents the number of α-
series numbers and the number of β-series numbers that have a rank of two or more than two, respectively?

(1) 12, 13
(2) 13, 12
(3) 12, 12
(4) 11, 11
(5) Cannot be determined
