3 MARKS for each constituent of the question Question 1 (a) Suppose two vectors each have length of 3 units.

What is the range of possible lengths for the vector representing the sum of the two?

(b)IF the 2 vectors are perpendicular to each other, what is the resultant vector length?

Question 2 A rural mail carrier leaves the post office and drives 22km northerly. She then drives in a direction 60 degrees south of east for 47m. What is her displacement from the post office?

Question 3 Two balls having different speeds roll off the edge of a horizontal table at the same time. Which hits the floor sooner, the faster or the slower ball? Why?

Question 4 A movie stunt driver on a motorcycle speeds horizontally off a 50m cliff. How fast must the motorcycle leave the cliff top to land on level ground below, 90m from the base of the cliff where the cameras are? Ignoring air resistance.

Question 5 In an ideal world where the effects of friction are negligible. Additionally, the balls rotation can also be ignored. A football is kicked from the ground at an angle of 37 degrees from the horizontal with a velocity of 20m/s. FIND (a) the maximum height (b) time it takes for the ball to hit the ground again (c) how far away it is from the origin when it hits the ground (d)the velocity at the maximum height (e)the acceleration at the maximum height (f)With a bit more realism, supposed the ball is lifted 1m above ground before it is kicked. How far did the ball travel before it hits the ground?

Question 6. With an aid of appropriate diagrams, explain the following situations: (a) A child sits upright in a wagon that is moving to the right at constant speed. The child exerts her hand and throws an apple straight upward, while the wagon continues to travel forward at constant speed. If air resistance is ignored, will the apple land behind, inside, or in front of her wagon? Or the apple will never return to ground?

(b) A boy on small hill aims his water balloon slingshot horizontally, straight at a second boy handing from a tree branch a distance of 100m away. At the instant the water balloon is released, the second boy lets go and falls from the tree, hoping to avoid being hit. Did he make the wrong decision? What if the distance apart is now 15m? ASSUMING IDEAL CONDITIONS.

Question 7 (a) Derive the formula below. HINT: sin(2x)=2sin(x)cos(x) ( )

(b) what type of projectile is it used for?(Type 1/2/3)

(c) What angle would give the longest range? How did you get that value?

(d) Suppose a cannonball is flying out at 60m/s. At what range should it have been aimed to strike a target 320m away?
