This report gives details of visit to Shantivan campus about solar thermal power plant and solar steam cooking system. This report also highlights the system specifications along with floor space maps about the different machinery used in cooking system. The report is divided into sectionsa. Solar steam cooking plant b. Small scale concentrated type solar cooker c. Solar thermal power plant Location of visit: Shantivan campus, Taleti, Abu road Rajasthan (India) Longitude: 72 47 N Latitude: 24 28 E Aim of visit: 1. To study the Solar Steam Cooking System (Scheffler Cooker) established at Shantivan Campus. 2. To study the Solar Thermal Power Plant at Shantivan campus. Details of visit: An educational tour to Shantivan campus started with visit to Solar Steam Cooking System widely known as Scheffler Cooker across the world. After visiting Scheffler cooker site the details were taken about solar cooker site and layout of kitchen and machineries in kitchen. Then, a visit was given to a solar thermal power plant. The project is in progress since January 2012. At the site, the introduction about plant was given by a supervisor using a video film about solar thermal power plant. The details regarding capacity and installation were given by supervisor.

easier for cookes to prepare meals for 35000 to 50000 peoples per day. The machinaries and vessels used in kitchen are as follows: a. Elevators and silos for rice and dal: The elevators are provided outside the kitchen with a dock to collect large amount of rice and dal bags. These bags are emptied in the hopper provided near dock. Then rice is lifted into storage silo where it is stored. While in need of cooking the rice or dal, the material is taken directly from silo and poured into cleaning or rinsing pot.

b. Cooking and frying pots: The cooking pots are provided with direct access to steam generated through a central piping system. The cooking pots used for different operations are as shown in Fig. 4. There are total 8 pots for cooking while 4 pots are provided for frying. The oil is heated up by passing oil over steam pipe.

Cutting and washing machines for vegetables: The cutting tools are provided for easy cutting of a large number of vegetables required daily and their hygienic washing is also done through machine operations. d. Roti department machinery: The separate department has been made for providing rotis, parathas etc. to peoples visiting in large number to Shantivan campus. It has more than 5 atta maker machines (kneaders). The roti department consists of 7 roti maker machines which operate on LPG cylinders having capacity of more than 14000 rotis per hour. The 6 nos. of dhepla and parathas makers are also installed in kitchen which also ran on LPG. The kitchen also has one big puri-paratha maker having different size circular notches which give any size roti or parathas as needed. You have to just fill atta dough

Solar Thermal power plant:

WRST has been installing a solar thermal power plant of capacity 1 MW near Shantivan campus. The work for installation is in progress. The silent features of this plant are as follows: Number of dishes: Electrical output: Thermal output: Solar field: Total mirror area: Turbine: 770 nos. of 60m2 1.0 Mw el. (net. 22000 kwh/24hrs) 140 Mwh therotical. (24hrs) 25 Acres near to campus (1.3 km) 45.000 m2 1.0 Mw el. at 255C and 41 bar (Siemens)

The main advantages of the 60m2 parabolic dish with fix focus are: - Cost effective / high output - Modular design - Innovative thermal storage concept - Inexpensive planar mirrors and MC-controlled tracking system - Fixed receiver with no need for flexible high pressure joints - No vacuum technology and no metal glass sealing - Direct steam generation, no heat exchanger and low parasitic loads - Efficient use of land; the dishes can be tightly placed - Power on demand and high efficiency due to cogeneration Plant description and expected working: "India One" solar thermal power plant is based on the three key technologies: Parabolic reflectors, thermal storage and Rankine cycle. The concentrated solar rays from the 60 m2 dishes are focused towards the in-house developed, highly efficient cavity receivers, which are positioned in front of each dish. The innovative receiver is integrated into a heavy iron casting and thus provides excellent thermal storage. The heat exchanger coil is fully embedded into the thermal storage medium and allows an improved heat transfer. Excellent insulation and an automated shutter avoid substantial energy loses at night or in cloudy condition. The thermal storage operates between 250 C to 450 C and can be discharged on demand. By means of the total thermal mass, the capacity will be sufficient to run the turbine around the clock. The layout of plant is as shown in fig 6.
