REGULAR BOARD MEETING

RIVERHEAD CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Regular Meeting
7:00 p.m. - Open to Public/High School Auditorium
Ladies and Gentlemen:
The Riverhead Board of Education is the authorized state agency responsible for setting
educational policy in the District. It consists of seven members. They serve three-year
terms and receive no salary or other financial compensation.
All meetings, except for executive sessions, are held before the public.
The Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District will hold a regular meeting
on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverhead High School Music Room #123,
700 Harrison Avenue, Riverhead, New York. After the meeting is opened to the public, the
Board will immediately recess to executive session to consider executive session topics
until approximately 7:00 p.m. at which time they will reconvene into open session in the
Riverhead High School Auditorium, 700 Harrison Avenue, Riverhead, New York.
1. Executive Session




The meeting will be called to order by the President or Vice President of the Board of Education.




Recess to Executive Session for discussion involving the medical, financial, credit or employment history of a particular
person or corporation or matters leading to the appointment, employment, promotion, demotion, discipline,
suspension, dismissal or removal of a particular person or corporation.


The Board of Education is allowed to enter into Executive Session under New York Statute PBO-Article 7-Section 105
for specific reasons. At this time the Board will enter Closed Session for the purpose of discussing:

medical, financial, credit or employment history of a particular person or corporation 1.

good listener and be responsive to the community, persons desiring to address the Board may do so during
the time so allotted on the agenda and according to established procedures.

During the audience portion of each Board meeting, patrons are invited by the president to speak for or
against any proposal on the tentative agenda or on any other school concern. The individual is asked to
identify his or herself, limit comments to a few minutes and avoid discussing personalities. The president
reserves the right to limit the number of presentations and/or length of comments, normally 3 minutes. At
the discretion of the president, patrons may be recognized at other times during the Board meeting.

The Board of Education will approve the minutes of the meeting. The Board members have had the minutes
prior to this meeting for examination. The minutes will be made public on the BoardDocs web page for our
district under the meeting from whence they came immediately after this motion is passed.

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District hereby approves a Memorandum of
Understanding with the Western Suffolk BOCES Student Support Services Center concerning implementation of the Healthy
Schools NY program to increase opportunities for physical activity and establish school environments that support and
promote healthful eating for all students, at no cost to the district; and, further authorizes the President of the Board of
Education to sign the memorandum.





WHEREAS, bids Planting Bed Maintenance were opened on December 17, 2013;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District hereby rejects
the bids received for Bid#RH14-001 Planting Bed Maintenance.




WHEREAS, on December 17, 2013 the District conducted the opening of Bid RH14-002 Lumber and Building Materials; and

WHEREAS, it has been determined to be in the best interest of the Riverhead Central School District to award the bid to
Riverhead Building Supply and Thurber Lumber Co., Inc.;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District hereby awards

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District hereby awards
the Bid RH14-003 Marching Band Uniforms for an initial term of January 15, 2014 through June 30, 2014, with the option to
renew for two (2) one year terms upon concurrence of the Riverhead Central School District and American Band
Accessories LLC, Nixa, MO under the same terms and conditions, and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby authorizes the President of the Board of Education and
Superintendent to sign any necessary documents.





RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District declares as surplus the following
equipment as obsolete and authorizes the disposal of the same in accordance with New York State Law; and, authorizes the
Superintendent of Schools to Sign any necessary documents to dispose of the property.

WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District recognizes that it has been entrusted by the
residents of the school district to prioritize programs and appropriate tax dollars to fund said programs; therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District hereby adopts the following budget
goals for the 2014-2015 school year:

1) To design and adopt a budget that stays within the Tax Cap limitations
2) To design and adopt a budget that preserves programs for RCSD students to the greatest extent possible
3) To design and adopt a budget that recognizes the current fiscal reality for Riverhead residents





WHEREAS, on January 1, 2014, the New York State Minimum Wage increased; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that hourly wages for student workers be adjusted as follows:

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District accepts the donation
from Planet Fitness of a Smith Press machine and an Olympic style Flat Bench to the District for the High
School fitness room.
