CHRIST
THE
KING
Christ the King Mission Statement
The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

I Have a Bean!!!
The next Council of Catholic Women meeting will be on Monday, January 20, at 7:00pm in the Parish Life Center. Pete Leonard will be our guest speaker. Pete began the Wheaton coffee roasting company I Have a Bean with a dual mission. First comes quality- they roast coffee beans which are rated in the top 1% in the world! Secondly, I Have a Bean also has a great social cause. The company hires people who have felony convictions on their record to help transform their lives. Come hear Pete Leonard tell the story of the work and the workers of this company while sampling their delicious coffees. A good way to warm up on a cold winter night!

A reminder to all parish organizations for example, Knights, CCW and others on campus, that we must be in compliance with the Diocese of Joliet and conference of Catholic Bishops. Those in positions of leadership especially and others must do the background check, fingerprinting and Protecting Gods Children and Vulnerable Adults workshop. This workshop is conveniently done at the Parish by Sherry Rochford and Eileen Maggiore. The Pastor will need to reassure Bishop Conlon that everyone is in compliance. Also, the staff is preparing for the new pastor that will be here at CTK on June 15th 2014, to show him that all our leadership and members in parish organizations have followed through what is required. Thank you to all who have gone through this required process. Thank you Eileen and Sherry, for doing hundreds of classes for our parishioners and diocesan parishioners. Fr. Peter Jarosz Protecting Gods Children Workshop Saturday, February 1, 2014 9:30 am in the PLC Our next workshop will be on Sat, Feb 1. Please register online at www.virtusonline.org. You may also call Sherry at 630-396-6078 or Eileen at 630-396-6076.
Our third year for Living the Eucharist will be coming up this Lent. This is a parish renewal program that will be offered to all parishioners this Lent season. Small groups will gather weekly for 6 weeks during the Lenten season. There is something for adults, teens and families. The weekly gathering will be 90 minute session reflecting on the Sunday readings and other topics each week. Living the Eucharist has the potential to renew and deepen the Eucharistic spirituality of parishioners in the following ways: Increased knowledge about the centrality of the Eucharist in Catholic life Greater appreciation and understanding of preparing for and participating in Sunday Mass Deeper, more intentional engagement in Sunday Mass, and, by extension, in parish life Keener awareness of living as a disciple of Jesus and building up the Kingdom of God A stronger, more Eucharist-based Catholic identity among participants More frequent attendance at Sunday Mass Opportunities to increase the knowledge, skills, and commitment of the parish liturgical ministers, thereby creating more vibrant Sunday liturgies Parishioners that have attended in 2012 and 2013 reported: A stronger, more Eucharist-based Catholic identity among participants More frequent attendance at Sunday Mass

To All Baptized
Baptism is not just an infant blessing, a life-cycle rite affecting the baby and his or her immediate family, but an incorporation into the body of Christ. The wider gathered community represents more adequately the entire body of Christ, the whole communion of saints, into which the child is being baptized. On the one hand, it is important for the babys family and godparents to realize this larger community claims their child both so that they may take seriously the communal nature of living the faith and so that they may experience the communitys support in the task of rearing a child in the faith. On the other hand, it is necessary for the congregation to realize how it is implicated in the childs Baptism, for a rite of passage into a community is a rite of passage for the whole community. The whole community is called to change in response to each individual baptized, whether child, adult or infant. It must be ready to make room for new persons, to listen respectfully to them, to nurture them, to accept the new challenges and critiques they present, and to grow them in the encounter [Ramshaw, Elaine quoted in Tending the Baptismal Journey by Greg Priebbenow]. We are all part of the journey of Baptism up until the moment when the Baptismal Pall is placed on our remains at the Mass of Christian Burial. It is important to know that we as the baptized are responsible for each child and youth in their search for Jesus Christ. The next time the Rite of Baptism is administered during Mass, afterwards, go up to the parents and sayWelcome to our family! Fr. Peter Jarosz
