Brief Description

These experts use their understanding of mathematics and science to design and build computers and computer components. Monitors, Circuit Boards, Computer Chips, and Hard Drives Make and test prototypes Evaluate designs and make changes where necessary Present completed designs to clients and oversee the manufacturing process Need to have and expert understanding of the way all the parts of a computer work, as well as the scientific properties on how to build them

Working Conditions and Hours

C.H.E usually work for computer manufacturers others are employed by engineering consulting firms Work primarily in office or lab environment, clean and comfortable places Always work as part of a team of engineers All work has to be accurate Work 40 hours per week, may work overtime to complete a task for clients before the deadline

Vary depending on the level of education, their experience, and the position they hold Engineers with a Bachelors degree earn less than with a Masters or Ph.D. Earn a salary between $40, 000 $125, 000 a year Experienced engineers who advance to senior or supervisory position can earn over $125, 000 or over Full time workers also receive benefits such as health and dental insurance, paid sick leave, vacation time and pension plan contributions

High school and College Requirements

Students interested should excel in math and science courses as well as English and computer studies Minimum educational requirement is a Bachelors Degree in computer engineering, takes 4 years to complete Masters degree is often required for more advanced research positions, Ph.D. is required for engineering professors. Masters take 1 to 2 years and PhD takes 4 years Required Courses: English, Mathematics (Calculus), Physics, Computer technology. University Level education is required.
