Description
This is a report to summarize the technical work done by CADVision to simulate the relative displacement of the glass of the side mirror. The details will summaries in the report.
PROBLEM STATEMENT 1. Wasting time and money in preparing prototype. 2. Face problem to determine which spring design is better. OBJECTIVE 1. To predict where location that need attention. 2. To simulate the deform end shape of the car side mirror under base excitation of 0.3g acceleration. 3. To indentify the displacement and response curve of the centre of the glass.
2. Material: Glass
ASSUMPTION 1. The simulation done with 2 types of element which is shell (casing) and solid (other components). 2. The model is considerably simplified to meet the time constraint. 3. Damping ratio is remained constant as 0.03 from first to last frequency mode.
STUDY SETTING Linear dynamic harmonic excitation setting is done in few minutes after the model preparation. The details of the setting are shown as the diagram below.
Input Parameter Linear Setup Dynamic Descriptions
The fixed geometry is applied at the 3 screw mounting holes as shown as the green color arrows. The sensor is applied at the centre of the glass. All the components are PA type 6, except spring as AISI 304, and mirror as glass.

TESTING RESULT
The simulation for each study solved in 50 minutes under the HP workstation Z400 (12 GB of RAM | 4 core | 3.04 GHz processing speed) There are total of 3 studies where the total simulation time is 150 minutes. The details of the result are shown in the table below.

DISCUSSION
1. Any failures found car side mirror are caused by the induced stress from the vibration? Answer: No, since the von-misses stress are very low that the material tensile strength.
2. Any other tests can the software done? Answer: Yes, such as mechanical shock test, random vibration test, thermal analysis, linear stress, fatigue test and so on.
REMARK The Benchmarking model will be use for the customized training to Delloyd soon.
CONCLUSION The first revision of Benchmarking service for Delloyd has been done.
