BWC to provide alternate jobs for manual scavengers;

Kokata 9 Nov: The state backward cass department has decded to provde aternatve
|ob opportunty to manua scavengers n the state as a part of the rehabtaton drve.
The decson was taken after t was found that n most of the muncpa areas, manua scavengng s
st beng practced, despte a ban.
A study has been conducted by the state urban deveopment agency (SUDA) n 127 muncpaty
area where t has been dentfed that manua scavengng s hghest n muncpaty area of North 24
Pargana, Asanso, Burdwan and Hooghy. Even t was found that the number of nsantary atrnes s
hghest n these three dstrcts where manua scavengng s done.
Senor offcas of the state backward cass department sad that they are now workng out the
modates so that manua scavengers coud be provded wth aternatve |obs. Accordng to the
statstcs coected from the department, there were around 20,000 manua scavengers workng n
