Sylvania Germicidal Lamps are potent and convenient sources of ultraviolet radiation having awavelength of 2J37 Angstrom Units. Radiation of this wavelength is known to be fatal to a wide variety of
bacteria and molds. Sylvania Germicidal Lamps are engineered spe

cifically

to irradiate air, surfaces, and liquids with quantities of

bactericidal ultraviolet radiation which under proper conditions will be lethal to many micro-organisms. Sylvania Germicidal Lamps are at present avaiiable in four wattages and five bulb types. Essential data on these Germicidal Lamps are given in the table below. The lamps offered provide the necessary variety of wattages and bulb shapes to allow selection of the Germicidal Lamp most suited to a particular application.
Special glasses have been developed to allow the radiation of bactericidal ultraviolet to the surroundings from Germicidal Lamps. Glass developed to transmit the maximum Germicidal ultraviolet also passes a small amount of shorter wavelength ultraviolet which produces ozone gas from atmospheric oxygen. Since in certain circumstances ozone is objectionable because of its acrid odor and tissue irritating qualities, Sylvania offersa second type of Germicidal Lamp in the li and 30 Watt sizes which virtually eliminates ozone production. Sylvania Germicidal Lamp types available in the li and 30 Watt sizes are the following: Type A Providing ample Germicidal ultraviolet but practt'- cally no ozone.

quantities may be desirable. Because of their lower energy output, Germicidal Lamps in the 4 and 8 Watt sizes produce insufficient ozone to justify offering them in two types of glass. Sylvania's Germicidal Lamps in these sizes, therefore, are offered in one type of glass only.

Sylvania Germicidal Lamps in the 8, 15 and 30 watt sizes are specifically designed to operate with readily available standard fluorescent lamp auxiliaries of corresponding size. The pin spacing on the U,shaped 4 watt lamp is the same as that of a 4,prong radio tube and sockets are easily obtained. This lamp operates from a standard 4 watt ballast.
