Visiting Primary School with my An-Nur friends!

Child: Leena Date: 5th December 2013 Written by: T. Bushra and T. Natasha This morning was very exciting for our four year olds, they were going with T. Bushra and T. Asma to visit Sockburn Primary School together! Nadira had just visited the school yesterday with her mother, and was happy to return with her friends. As the children got their bags ready our parent helpers Nia (Ayas mother) and Shahrooza (Sammenas mother) arrived to the excited squeals of the children. At 9:40am the children began their walk down to Sockburn School. The children met the new entrance teacher and were surprised to see their old friend Ibrahim. Ibrahim proudly showed his An-Nur friends around the classroom as well as reciting a poem for them. The teacher asked each child to introduce themselves in front of her class of five and six year old children. Manha responded clearly in a confident voice Manha when asked for her name! We were very proud to hear Manha respond confidently in English, especially in front of a large number of older children. Wajiha was also very confident, trying to be in the front of the line each time even in front of the older children showing us around! The teacher then gave the children a tour of the school, all of their classrooms, library, hall and teachers. Sahra was beyond excited running as quickly as she could from place to place, eager to explore the entire school! When the children got to the playground Amal expressed how much she loved the big playground, while Adham challenged himself with the monkey bar it was very tricky but he did not give up. The children then went inside to be part of a music and movement session, Faiza demonstrated wonderful listening skills the entire visit, following instructions quickly. Aya was

very talkative, excitedly talking to her mother the entire trip, while Sameena also stayed with her mother very proud of her special green shoes she had on. Once we returned to school Leena was very quick to ask can we go back again! Lets go back to the big school!

Review of learning Leena all of your teachers are very impressed with how you have progressed during your time at An-Nur. At the school visit we could see you demonstrate a wide range of positive learning dispositions reflecting all strands and principles of our early years curriculum Te Whriki. You demonstrated responsibility and confidence by expressing yourself verbally in a new environment surrounded by unfamiliar older children. I also observed you demonstrate the dispositions of courage, curiosity, trust and playfulness as you took an interest and was involved throughout the entire visit. Where to next? Leena your teachers are confident you have the necessary dispositions to do well at primary school, and will continue supporting your school readiness skills and dispositions when you return next year.
