Radiologist

Diagnostic Pathway

Job Description
Radiologists are medical doctors that specialize in treating diseases and injuries using x-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET) and ultrasound.

Responsibilities:
Protect patient from radiation Place patients in creative positions for pictures Take x-rays, MRIs, or CT scans

Read the X-rays


Talk to patients about X-ray Diagnose patients injuries Read ultrasounds

Does blood vessel studies


Works with cancerous patients Prescribe medications Review medical histories

Take mammograms

Work Setting
Work hours: 58 hours a week with at least 1 weekend on call every month.

Work environment: Hospitals, clinics, urgent care centers


Main stressors: Not being able to find what's wrong and the patients may not be friendly with you

Must have the patients to deal with highly stressed patients, be an active listener, and be a very verbal person. This career fits my personality because I like to help people and I am a verbal person 10 characteristics

This occupation would be right for me because the job that I choose to do when I am older, I want to feel like I am helping someone feel better. I work well with other people and I am pretty good with communicating. I also dont get grossed out by seeing certain things so this job would be good for me.

X-rays are also taken during surgeries to make it easier for the surgeon to see if he is putting everything in the correct places.
