Assessment 4: Report Presentation (25%)

This assignment is to be done in groups of 3.

Part 1: Report Presentation (15%)


You are required to write a report about your department’s existing facilities for the
handicapped. Focus the presentation of your report on ONE special ability/ needs
that concerns students/ clients dealing with your discipline/department/faculty and
may be of interest to your group. The problems can be related to either what is already
available or what needs to be made available to make it more handicap friendly. You
are required to refer to a minimum of 3 reliable sources of reference. Include actual
information from primary sources (e.g. students/ lecturers- through questionnaires,
interviews or observations) and include secondary resources [for example journal
articles, online journal texts, newspaper articles] to add credibility to your report.

Prepare a report presentation on your findings AND your thoughts on the issue you
have chosen. You have to :
o provide a title for your presentation
o use professional looking power-point presentations to make your presentation
interesting, effective and focused.
o your presentation should not contain more that 5-6 slides
o do NOT read from the slides. Talk to your audience.
o all group members must play an equal role when presenting the findings
o limit the presentation to between 10-15 minutes [do rehearse the presentation
and you are NOT permitted to exceed the allocated time]
o make sure that your presentation follows the required structure
i. An introduction of group members
ii. An introduction of your group’s presentation topic (main issue)
iii. A content presentation / findings [for example, statistics, reasons,
graphs, etc.]

There will be no Question-and-Answer session. You will be assessed as a group.


Submit the names of your group members to your own instructor by week 5 (3rd
August to 7 August) during class time. The presentations will be held on week 14
(October 19 – October 23) which is the last week of lectures during class hours.
Attendance is compulsory for all students.

Part 2: Writing of report (10%)


Submit a 5 page written report on your brief about existing facilities or lack of
facilities for the handicap in your department/faculty/center. Your report must be
supported with evidence from your interview/observation or other forms of evidences
(for example, photo) found during your data collection. The report should include
three valid sources of reference.

Your report must include the following:

Take note:
• You are required to place equal emphasis on your findings and discussions.
• Your discussion must reflect a level of maturity that demonstrates
professionalism. Do not outline the weaknesses. Try to provide solutions.
• The complete written report must be submitted by 2 October, 2009 before
4.00 p.m. to your respective instructors.
• The 5 page report excludes graphics, tables, figures, references and appendix.
• Any visual representations within the 5 page report should not take up more
than ½ the paper. At least four and half page should be the report.
• Sources must be acknowledged. Citation should follow the APA style [see
textbook ]
• Your essay must be typed, with 1.5 spacing, using Times New Roman, font
size-12.
• For this assignment, you must have two cover pages. The first cover page
should have a) the course code and name, b) your group members’ names and
metric numbers, c) your instructor’s name and d) date of submission. Then,
this should be followed by the cover page of a report. This cover page of the
report should look professional as indicated in your textbook.
• 5 marks will be deducted daily for late submissions.
• Plagiarized work will automatically get a “0” zero.
