Let's start with an explanation of what's not coming over the course of this article.

There are lots of films were really looking forward to that we couldnt fit into the list for a variety of reasons. For instance, weve left the second Hobbit movie off, partly to make room, and partly because we hopefully covered that in our salute to it last year. t's a slight cheat, perhaps, as we've very much looking forward to it. Furthermore, we couldnt s!uee"e in the glorious#looking Epic, the reboot of the $ack %yan franchise under the watch of &enneth 'ranagh, 'a" Luhrmanns take on The Great Gatsby, 'ryan (ingers delayed Jack The Giant Slayer, the also#delayed and fun#looking Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, possibly %yan %eynolds sleeper R.I.P. ., nor (am %aimis could#go#either#way !" The Great #n$ The Po%er&ul. )rnold (chwar"eneggers reteaming with (ylvester (tallone in The Tomb got edged out too, as did *alter +ills 'ullet To The Hea$. Then theres the mighty $ason (tatham. +is films may not be in this list, but were looking to buy day one tickets to see both Parker and Hu((in)bir$. Furthermore, there are films that haven't had a ,-./ release date confirmed yet that, inevitably, we can't include at the time of writing. The *uppets +, for instance, we didn't have a solid enough date for in time, else it would comfortably had crashed this list. *ell be saluting a host of 'ritish movies 0 including the eagerly#awaited )lan 1artridge film 0 in a separate piece to come. For now, heres our ,2 to watch for ,-./3

+,. #nchor(an: The -e)en$ .ontinues

Theres no formal release date announced for #nchor(an + yet, but its widely expected to turn up in ,-./. ts comfortably our most eagerly#awaited comedy of the year, and looks far, far more worthwhile than something like The Han)o/er Part III. The 4hannel Five news crew is back together for the se!uel, led by *ill Ferrell in his finest screen role as %on 'urgundy. 4rucially, (teve 4arells excellent comedy creation, 'rick Tamlin, is reporting back for duty too. 5xpect loud noises. )dam 6c&ay is returning to direct, and if he can control the ensemble the way he managed to with the first movie, then expect #nchor(an: The -e)en$ .ontinues to have the belly laugh !uotient to beat in ,-./. t's due on 7ecember ,-th.

+0. # Goo$ ay To ie Har$

1erhaps its the optimist in us, but the last trailer we saw for the return of $ohn 6c4lane in # Goo$ ay To ie Har$ looked really !uite promising. 4learly, ie Har$ , is about as far removed from the one man against some people in a building setup of the first film. This time, its $ohn 6c4lane and son, saving the entire world while so8ourning 6oscow. There are lots of reasons to be wary, not least the decision to appoint $ohn 6oore to direct. 6oore has his moments, but his finest film perhaps remains 'ehin$ Ene(y -ines, and that in itself wasnt too much to get excited about. +is *a1 Payne movie still makes us shudder. 'ut then, ie Har$ 0.2 turned out fine 9thought its best not to consider it a ie Har$ movie:, and the appointment of Len *iseman to direct that was widely !uestioned. Turns out, he did a decent 8ob, and $ohn 6oore may yet surprise a few people. Finally, theres 'ruce *illis, in his most iconic screen role. # Goo$ ay To ie Har$ firmly rests on his shoulders, and if he can deliver, then ;alentines 7ay ,-./ 0 for thats when its out 0 might turn out to be really rather fun.

+3. Evil Dead

%emakes # particularly of the horror variety # seldom give us much cause for celebration, but the forthcoming E/il ea$ has a better pedigree than most. <ruguayan filmmaker Fede )lvare" came to (am %aimis attention about three years ago, following the appearance of his sensational short film #ta3ue $e Panico4 on =ouTube. 6ade for 8ust a few hundred dollars, the film depicted a giant robot attack on <ruguays capital, and given the limited resources )lvare" had available, its a remarkable achievement. %aimi perhaps saw something of his own creative verve as a young filmmaker, since hes seen fit to hand over the keys to the franchise that made him such a success in the first place. ) remake of as beloved an >-s film as The E/il ea$ is always going to be controversial, but with )lvare" at the helm, 7iablo 4ody behind the script, and the first trailer displaying some strikingly creative gore, were willing to take next years riff on the classic cabin#in#the#woods horror on its own merits.

++. World War Z

The prolonged and troubled production of Worl$ War 5 has been played out in the public eye probably far more than the filmmakers would have liked. (till, if were going to get panicky about films that have late reshoots, thats a good many blockbusters well have to discount. The broader problem with Worl$ War 5, based on the work of 6ax 'rooks, is that 0 as strong as the source material is 0 it doesnt immediately lend itself to a movie 9the same can be said of 7aniel + *ilsons Robopocalypse, which (teven (pielberg is bringing to the screen in ,-.?:. 1erhaps thats why late writing work was done on the final act of the film. 'rad 1itt is starring in this one, with 6arc Forster directing 9his first blockbuster since --@ misfire 6uantu( !& Solace:. Forsters 4; includes strong movies such as 7in$in) 8e/erlan$ and *onster9s 'all, and he has the capability of turning in a very strong film. *e hope hes done so again with Worl$ War 5, not least because follow#ups have already been planned.

+:. .aptain Philips

(ince Green 5one underperformed at the box office in early ,-.-, weve not had a new film from director 1aul Areengrass. Green 5one came at the end of a prolific few years that included the terrific ;nite$ <= and The 'ourne ;lti(atu(. .aptain Philips is something a little different, though. (tarring Tom +anks and working from a script by 'illy %ay, the movie is the story of the captain of the title, whose ship encounters (omali pirates. 'ased on a true story 9the source material is the book # .aptain9s uty: So(ali Pirates, 8a/y SE#-s an$ an)erous ays #t Sea:, its hard to think of anyone better than Areengrass to tackle such a sub8ect. ts serious sub8ect matter, set in a very enclosed area, and may 8ust be one of the first real contenders for the ,-.? Bscars. *ere going to have to wait until Bctober ,-./ before we get to see it, though.

+2. En$er9s Ga(e

There have been rumblings of an adaptation of Brson (cott 4ards award# winning sci#fi novel for several years, with The Phanto( *enaces $ake Lloyd rumoured to be playing the young lead back in .CCC. 'ut after years in the pre# development wilderness, an En$er9s Ga(e movie has finally been shepherded through production by director Aavin +ood. The adaptation features a great cast, including )sa 'utterfield in the lead as officer#in#training )ndrew D5nder *iggin, +arrison Ford, +ailee (teinfeld and 'en &ingsley. The script, which aims to fit 4ards sprawling alien invasion story into a feature length, has already received approval from the famously vocal author. Theres no shortage of sci#fi and fantasy films out next year, and with En$er9s Ga(e currently scheduled for release in Eovember, its dangerously close to the launch of Thor: The ark Worl$ and Hun)er Ga(es se!uel, .atchin) 7ire. 'ut if the movie can match up to the !uality of its cast and filmmakers, theres every chance that positive reviews and word of mouth will entice the audience it needs.

:9. Monsters University

*ere not on the bandwagon thats suggesting the glory days of 1ixar are over. .ars + was a misfire, certainly, but we had a lot of fun with 'ra/e. Furthermore, *onsters ;ni/ersity looks a lot of funF the teaser trailer for the film is a hoot. *ere sure were not alone, though, in preferring something a little bolder, and outside of a franchise, from 1ixar. ;p, Wall>E, Ratatouille3 these were films setting the standards for others to live up to, even in spite of their respective imperfections. *hile 1ixar has shown it can deliver outstanding se!uels, a pre!uel to *onsters Inc perhaps wasnt the pro8ect we most wanted from the studio. That said, though, its a film thats impossible to resist, and were looking forward to it greatly. t takes (ully and 6ike back to their university days, and tells the story of how they came to be such friends, in spite of an initial rivalry. 5xpect the animation to be first class, and expect the film to be a family treat.

:?. 7ast Si1

'y rights, the ageing 7ast franchise should be propping up the bottom shelf of straight#to#7;7 releases. 'ut with 7ast 7i/e, director $ustin Lin managed to supercharge a franchise that was rapidly running out of fuel, altering its tra8ectory from the street racing subgenre 9a bit like The .annonball Run with neon underlighting: to macho heist movie. 7wayne $ohnson added further to the testosterone and absurdity, and the movies infectious sense of fun made it one of ,-..Ds surprise blockbusters. Lin is therefore faced with the unenviable task of bettering his own high watermark, and with next years Fast (ix, hes sending the franchise off on a globe#trotting adventure that takes in London, Alasgow and the 4anary slands. ;in 7iesel, 1aul *alker and $ordana 'rewster are the usual suspects behind the wheel, and theyre 8oined by a returning 6ichelle %odrigue" 9whos somehow cheated death:, and Luke 5vans as the villain of the piece. *hat itll all be about is anyones guess, but <niversals confirmed itll be another heist picture, and the presence of Aina 4arano among the supporting cast ensures therell be !uite a lot of hand#to#face combat to take in.

:@. The -ast Stan$

*ith his relatively brief appearances in the E1pen$ables films, )rnold (chwar"enegger dipped a dainty toe back into the action movie world. The -ast Stan$, meanwhile, will see the former Aovernator take the lead in a gun#cra"y film for the first time since Ter(inator = almost a decade ago. )rnie plays (heriff %ay Bwens, who en8oys a !uiet life in a sleepy <( border town, until one day hes charged with preventing a group of vicious escaped convicts from crossing the line to freedom in 6exico. +es 8oined by Forest *hitaker, Luis Au"man and Aenesis %odrigue" on the side of law and order, while 1eter (tormare also stars, presumably as a villain. The -ast Stan$ is the +ollywood debut of director &im $i#woon, the (outh &orean director of # Tale !& T%o Sisters and I Sa% The e/il. The latter proved $i#woons prowess as an action director, and The -ast Stan$s additional budget means its packed full of gunfights, explosions and various vehicles skidding out of control. *ith talent like that at the reins, were hoping The -ast Stan$ will be a late# career return to form for )rnold, the erstwhile titan of the action genre.

:A. !bli/ion

Few people left cinemas excitedly talking about Tron: -e)acy9s forgettable story, but one thing was for sureF it was a visually stunning film. 7irector $oseph &osinksi will no doubt bring some of that shininess to !bli/ion, another science fiction movie, this time about a repairman in a post#apocalyptic future. That repairman is played by the endlessly energetic Tom 4ruise, who will star alongside Blga 96uantu( !& Solace: &urylenko, whose character is a catalyst for some sort of war between aliens and the surviving dregs of humanity. 6organ Freeman, 6elissa Leo and Ga(e !& Thrones9 Eikola8 4oster#*aldau are also among the supporting cast. Further plot specifics are vague, but one <niversal executive has described the script as Gone of the finest weve ever come acrossH, though we suppose they would say that. )t any rate, a marriage of &osinskis visual skill and a story worth telling may make !bli/ion one of next years more pleasant surprises.

:,. The .roo$s

The 7ream*orks )nimation slate is hardly an empty one, but there are some promising pro8ects amidst the twelve active films it recently confirmed. The .roo$s might 8ust be the most interesting. This was a film that was originally co#scripted by $ohn 4leese, and )ardman was putting it together as a stop#motion pro8ect back when it had its deal with 7ream*orks in place. *hen )ardman and 7ream*orks went their separate ways, the latter kept control of The .roo$s. t kept &irk 7e6icco on board 9who'd been working on the pro8ect with )ardman:, and brought the excellent 4hris (anders 0 of -ilo & Stitch and Ho% To Train Bour ra)on vintage 0 in to co#write and co#direct. The voice talent includes the likes of Eicolas 4age, %yan %eynolds and 5mma (tone, and the film is set in prehistoric times, as a protective caveman faces up to big changes. )nd while well always be curious as to 8ust what )ardman could have made of all of this, this is arguably the most promising 7ream*orks )nimation movie on its known slate.

:0. #&ter Earth

=es, its an 6 Eight (hyamalan movie. 'ut before you pull the power lead out of the back of your computer, bear this in mindF unlike his previous films, which were disappointing to say the least, (hyamalan has left the script for others to write this time. Syriana scribe (tephen Aaghan and 'ook !& Eli writer Aary *hitta have 8oined forces to write this futuristic sci#fi movie, in which *ill and $aden (mith play a father and son stuck on a deserted planet 5arth. *ith the father in8ured, the son must traverse a dangerous landscape to get help. That *ill (miths characters called 4ypher %aige has dampened our enthusiasm somewhat, but its important to remember that, way before the suicide#inducing winds of The Happenin), or the dodgy kung#fu fantasy of The -ast #irben$er, (hyamalan was a storyteller of considerable skill. *ill #&ter Earth see the director reclaim his directing mo8oI *e live in hope.

:=. The Hun)er Ga(es: .atchin) 7ire

t was no mean feat, taking the dark material of The Hun)er Ga(es and turning it into such a compelling, well#made piece of cinema. ) huge global hit, the pressures of hitting a Eovember ,-./ release window nonetheless meant that original director Aary %oss passed on the se!uel. n though came Francis Lawrence to direct .atchin) 7ire. +es subse!uently agreed to make *ockin)Cay Part : and Part + as well. Lawrence is a good choice. +es shown glimpses of brilliance across I #( -e)en$, Water 7or Elephants and .onstantine, although hes got his hands full with the complex narrative of the remaining Hun)er Ga(es books. $oining the cast for .atchin) 7ire, in the pivotal role of Finnick Bdair, is (am 4laflin. 1hilip (eymour +offman has also been added to the cast. .atchin) 7ire may be a slightly harder immediate sell than The Hun)er Ga(es, but it has the ingredients for !uite an edgy piece of 1A#./#rated cinema.

:+. Dick>#ss +

ts already more than two years since the anarchy of the 7 = superhero movie Dick>#ss, and although the casts a little older and a bit more famous, the se!uel promises to be as irreverent as ever. $eff *adlow takes over from 6atthew ;aughn as director, and its said that the formers spec script impressed the latter so much that he got the filmmaking gig almost straight away. )aron $ohnson once again stars as 7avid Li"ewski, whose enthusiasm for playing the crime#fighting alter ego &ick#)ss far outstrips his abilities. 4hloe 6oret" reprises her role as the sweary young assassin +it#Airl, who this time finds herself struggling to fit into ordinary life at school. Then theres 4hristopher 6int"#1lasse, whos now a full#fledged villain of dubious sartorial taste, while $im 4arrey and $ohn Legui"amo round out the supporting cast. )nyone whos read 6ark 6illars comics will have an idea of what to expect from the se!uel, which is two#parts comedy to e!ual parts dis!uieting violence. *ill a shark named 6argaret Thatcher also make a cameo appearanceI

::. 7ro"en

7edicated devotees of 7isney animation will probably be viewing 7ro"en in !uite a divided way. Bn the upside, this is arguably the last of the very long#in# gestation pro8ects thats been bubbling around the studio for decades. ts the studios long#awaited take on +ans 4hristian )ndersens The Sno% 6ueen, which last time fell apart 8ust over a decade ago, when work had begun on it as a hand#drawn pro8ect. ts come back to life now as a 4A musical under the eye of director 4hris 'uck 9he also co#directed Tar"an:, with dina 6en"el voicing the (now Jueen herself, and &risten 'ell lending her pipes to her estranged sister. 'roadway composers &risten )nderson#Lope" and %obert Lope" are working on the songs. Aetting 'roadway composes in in itself harks back to 7isney of some ,years ago. *eve thus far seen some early art for 7ro"en on a brief trip we made to *alt 7isney )nimation (tudios, as well as some character design work. ts impossible to call the film off the back of that, of course, but we remain desperately excited to finally see The (now Jueen on the big screen. ts been a long, long time coming.

:2. Thor: The ark Worl$

The second of 6arvels ,-./ releases, and the second of its phase two films in the build#up to ,-.2s The #/en)ers +, Thor: The ark Worl$ may end up being the best comic book movie of ,-./. 4ertainly the original Thor was strong, and Ga(e !& Thrones )lan Taylor is an intriguing choice to replace &enneth 'ranagh in the directors chair. 'ut where can the film go nextI *e know that 4hris +emsworth, an allegedly# reluctant Eatalie 1ortman, a rumoured Tom +iddleston and a definite )nthony +opkins are returning. Furthermore, on villain duties this time around is 4hristopher 5ccleston. Further geek points have been earned by adding 4huck himself, Kachary Levi, to the cast. Lots of promise, this one, in a year that has no shortage of movies in the genre.

<. The Worl$9s En$

(imon 1egg and 5dgar *rights 4ornetto Trilogy gets its concluding chapter in the potentially fantastic apocalyptic comedy, The Worl$9s En$. *rights usual collaborators, (imon 1egg and Eick Frost are 8oined by %osamund 1ike, 1addy 4onsidine, 5ddie 6arsan and 6artin Freeman, as a group of old friends gets back together to en8oy a pub crawl before the apocalypse. Shaun !& The ea$ and Hot 7u"" were both truly special fusions of genre and comedy, and wed be truly stunned if *right and his friends didnt have something e!ually inspiring in store for their third feature together.

?. The Wol/erine

f theres one lesson that Sky&all taught the blockbuster movie world in ,-.,, its that its possible to turn continued production delays to your advantage. 4ertainly the time its taken to bring a follow#up to ,--Cs E>*en: !ri)ins: Wol/erine to the screen has not been without incident. )t one stage, 7arren )ronofsky was all set to direct The Wol/erine, before he vacated the directors chair, with $ames 6angold stepping in. Theres a real sense of trying to properly do *olverine 8ustice this time, too. 1romising not to be as melancholy as the previous film, the basis of The Wol/erine is a .C>, run of the comic from Frank 6iller and 4hris 4laremont, that took the character to $apan. Thats what the films doing too, although were not going to say any more about the plot than that. 4hristopher 6cJuarrie, whos contributed to E>*en screenplays in the past, has co#written this one, and theres the impression that The Wol/erine has learned the lessons of last time around. td be a shame, after all, if the final good memory we had of $ackmans *olverine was a cameo in another film3

@. Stoker

)nd 8ust how good does this lookI Stoker is the first 5nglish language film from director 1ark 4han#wook. *hy should that be of interestI *ell, 4han#wook gave the world the wonderful !l$boy for starters. That should be enough to prick the old ears up. Furthermore, the screenplay has heritage, too. t turned up on the 'lack List of the best unproduced scripts back in ,-.-, and its from the pen of Prison 'reak star *entworth 6iller. ts a mix of thriller, horror and drama, as a young girl finds herself living with her uncle and mother after the death of her father. t strikes us as the perfect film to go and see knowing no more than that. The trailers thus far have been incredibly impressive, and the cast includes Eicole &idman, 6ia *asikowska and 6atthew Aoode. Bh, and we also get a new 4lint 6ansell score with this one. *e like 4lint 6ansell scores.

A. *an !& Steel

Aut feeling suggests that Kack (nyders reboot of the (uperman franchise, *an !& Steel, wont be the finest comic book movie of ,-.,. 'ut heck, its the one were most intrigued about seeing. +enry 4avill is pulling on the blue tights this time around, to do battle with 6ichael (hannon. The lesson of the %ichard 7onner Super(an movies has been digested, as *an !& Steel also pulls together a terrific ensemble castF %ussell 4rowe, )my )dams, &evin 4ostner, Laurence Fishburne and 7iane Lane all have roles of varying si"es here. Theres also the hand of 4hristopher Eolan involved. +e, along with 7avid ( Aoyer, came up with the story that finally unlocked the return of (uperman to the big screen. Eolan is one of the producers, too. Kack (nyder, meanwhile, has much to prove with *an !& Steel. (ome of his work on Watch(en remains !uite brilliant. 6uch of his work on Sucker Punchwasnt. =et its hard not to be excited about (upermans latest return. +es the character who proved that big comic book movies can work, and in ,-./, we sincerely hope he continues to do so. 5xpect (uperman to be back on the big screen within two years of *an !& Steel9s release, too3

,. Iron *an =

6arvels phase two gets formally underway with the fourth big screen outing for %obert 7owney $rs Tony (tark 9five, if you count The Incre$ible Hulk cameo:. Butside of The #/en)ers, this is 6arvels most valuable franchise right now. )nd perhaps thats why its taken the boldest gamble of any ma8or ,-./ comic book movieF its brought in (hane 'lack to write and direct. (hane 'lack has only directed one film to date, the ex!uisite Diss Diss 'an) 'an), and his appointment to Iron *an = was something of a surprise. 'ut what a pleasant surpriseF 'lacks scripts for the likes of -ethal Weaponand The -ast 'oy Scout are simply great fun to read, even before you get to the films. )nd 'lacks balance of humour and action seems a bang#on fit for Iron *an. The challenge will be to push the character a bit harder this time 9as well as explain away the lack of )vengers to help him:. )s such, in comes (ir 'en &ingsley as The 6andarin, hopefully channelling his fearsome 7on Logan character from Se1y 'east as much as a 1A#./L.,) rating will allow. 5xpect a lot of money to head in the direction of Iron *an = at the box office. +opefully, itll also put the standalone Iron *an franchise firmly back on track, after the slightly disappointing Iron *an +.

0. Star Trek Into arkness

Theres a section of devoted Star Trek fans who really dont like what $$ )brams did with his reboot. 'ut then, arguably, it was never set to be a film for the hardened TrekkieLTrekker. nstead, )brams managed to make a broad, accessible science fiction film in a franchise that had relied heavily on fan appeal for its last couple of entries. )s a piece of action cinema, Star Trek was also something !uite special. )brams has taken his time to bring the crew of the 5nterprise back together 0 its been four years since the first film 0 and this time, hes also added some more 'ritish talent to the cast. Sherlock's 'enedict 4umberbatch, )lice 5ve and Eoel 4larke are amongst the talents on show. The plot is being kept a heavily guarded secret, and )brams shot the bulk of the film on studio sets, meaning Star Trek Into arkness wasnt papped anywhere near as much as recent blockbusters. f he manages to keep the vast bulk up of his film under wraps until release date, thatll be some achievement. 5ither way, this is the se!uel to beat next year.

=. Paci&ic Ri(

Few directors can fuse a knowledge of fantasy and science fiction and individual artistry as well as Auillermo del Toro, and thats why, in spite of only having seen one or two images from the set of Paci&ic Ri(, were excited enough about the film to put it near the top of our must#see movies list. del Toros Gbeautiful poem to giant monstersH, Paci&ic Ri( is all about humans clambering into massive robots to battle creatures from the ocean. *hile movies like Trans&or(ers and 'attleship dealt with vaguely similar destructive premises, were looking forward to seeing what a director as adept with special effects and framing can do # del Toro has previously said that hes taken inspiration from the painter Francisco Aoya, which certainly isnt something youd get from 6ichael 'ay. dris 5lba, 4harlie +unnam and, of course, %on 1erlman are among the movies ensemble cast, while the scripts been worked on by, among other writers, the <&s own Eeil 4ross, whose T; work includes Spooks, -uther and octor Who. *hether or not del Toro can bring extra layers of human complexity to the distinctly visual kai8u genre remains to be seen. +. Elysiu(

Eeill 'lomkamps istrict < was a huge hit when it appeared three years ago, earning back around seven times its M/-million budget. 6ore importantly, istrict < fused intelligent storytelling and sci#fi action in a way that was impossible to resist, immediately putting the director and first#time actor (harlto 4opley on the map. This time, 'lomkamps been given a much greater budget 9M.,-million:, a starrier cast, including 6att 7amon in the lead, $odie Foster, )lice 'raga, and *illiam Fichtner. Like Frit" Langs *etropolis, Elysiu( introduces a future where the gulf between rich and poor is greater than everN the wealthy are holed up in a posh space station up in the stratosphere, while the other C> per cent scratch a miserable living on 5arth. From what weve read, 6att 7amon plays a lead character almost as morally ambiguous as istrict <s prawn#hating *ikus van de 6arwe # 7amon stars as an ex#convict is drawn into a society#levelling mission due to self interest rather than a concern for the poor, though we can probably expect to see a redemptive arc to his character as the story unfolds. )s his earlier short films proved, 'lomkamp has a remarkable ability to create extraordinary worlds on a miniscule budget. *ith M/-million, he managed to depict a convincingly grungy ghetto of alien refugees in istrict <. *e cant

wait to see what he has in store for us with the expanded resources hes been given for Elysiu(.

:. Gra/ity

)s you will have noted by now, ,-./s schedule is positively awash with superhero movies, science fiction and fantasy. 'ut if we had to choose 8ust one such film as our most anticipated, it would have to be )lfonso 4uarons Gra/ity. 4uaron, of course, was the director of ,--ODs stunning .hil$ren !& *en. Gra/ity marks his return to the sci#fi genre, and his first movie in more than six years. Bn the strength of what we know about the director and this film, weve a feeling itll be worth the wait. (andra 'ullock and Aeorge 4looney star as a pair of astronauts who, when their orbiting space station falls apart after a catastrophic incident, must fight for survival in debris#strewn space. *hen the movie was still at the scripting stage, word got out that it was intended to unspool in a single, unbroken shot, with the camera moving in and around the action without an obvious edit. That same free#flowing concept appears to have found its way into the finished movie, with rumours of the opening scene comprising a single .@#minute shot, and the entire film containing only .2- or so shots in total.

)ll of this could be written off as so much gimmickry were it not for 4uarons track record of using cinematography to heighten drama. +is work on The Prisoner !& #"kaban is widely regarded as one of the high points of the Harry Potter series, while the extraordinary unbroken action set#pieces in .hil$ren !& *en 9including a breathtaking car chase and a sprint through a building under fire: are examples of a master filmmaker at work. .hil$ren !& *ens critical acclaim didnt, sadly, trigger a stampede at the box# office. +eres hoping that ,-./ proves to be 4uarons year, and that Gra/ity finds the audience it deserves. 7ollo% our T%itter &ee$ &or &aster ne%s an$ ba$ Cokes ri)ht here. #n$ be our 7acebook chu( here.
