DO NOT CRITIZE, THINK CRITICALLY

The main key of success in critical thinking is the ability to evaluate logically the quality of ones thinking, consistently assure ultimate understanding and achieve wise and unbiased judgments. One of the most effective ways to excel and develop this strategic skill is to utilize these particular divisions of critical thinking:

CHARITABLE INTERPRETATION -

When critically evaluating an argument you disagree with, assume that the other party is presenting it in good faith. Always argue against the strongest version of their argument. It shows respect for your fellow thinkers. Therefore, be broadminded.

RATIONAL THINKING It is important to distinguish between both sides of the situation, decide about
the right one and find a reason for our decision. Rational thinking is based on facts and reasons. It refers to provision of reasons and logical thinking rather than personal opinion or emotions. Everyone is capable of thinking rationally, but people usually tend to cover or omit this ability because of emotions or prejudices. Therefore, think unbiasedly.

INFORMATION Every information is essential. We can define information as a result of the process that
we are facing to. More information we know, more enabled we are to create an objective and complex framework or the process of argumentation we will follow. Therefore, do research.

TRANSLATE Every information has to be percieved objectively. As rational thinking is not based just on
the verbal communication, but on signals, symbols or body language, we need to translate this fundamental and necessary element in order to understand correctly the particular situation and conclude it with our objective evaluation. Therefore, be perceptive.

INVESTIGATE Every possible aspect of the situation has to be identified. The important part of critical
thinking we cannot dismiss is feedback in form of answers & questions. Based on this process we can investigate the situation and be objective. Therefore, ask... ask... ask.

COMBINE The identified aspects have to be combined together. Use all your knowledge, information
provided and facts. Therefore, do not limit yourself to one way-out and be creative.

ANALYSE The combined aspects have to be analysed and confronted with each other. All arguments
consist of biased point of view supported by non-rational attitude. Therefore, debate and analyze independently on the internal and external circumstances.

LOCATE An issue has to be located and steady. Moreover, discussion tend to change the direction. A
subject of main interests is replaced by non-sense details. Therefore, do not skip from one topic to another.

LET PEOPLE TALK People concerned in an issue have to be allowed to provide the process of critical
thinking with their feedbacks and points of view. Listen to people carefully. In general, more talkativeness does not equal more interest. Therefore, rather listen than talk.

YOUR EVALUATION The process of critical thinking has to undergo final evaluation of a thinker. Make
sure your judgements are clear, unbiased, wise and based on facts. Good luck!
