Assignment/Activity TitleGuilded Age Interdisciplinary SkillActing

YearFreshman Portfolio CategoryMedia and Communications

Participating in the first CAP interdisciplinary was not a favorite activity of mine, although my public speaking and confidence increased dramatically. For my first interdisciplinary I sang a song by Bert Williams and George Walker. In the past I never liked to sing, and I still dont, although my general view of public speaking has changed. I now am more open to performing and I hope to continue improving my public speaking and decreasing my stage fright. In the interdisciplinary performance I also played the role of a street urchin during the Guilded age. At the beginning of the interdisciplinary I tried to avoid as many roles as I could, although as I practiced the role of street urchin I put my own style on the role and in the end playing the role of the street urchin was the most memorable part of the Guilded Age interdisciplinary. I struggled with accepting the fact that I would sing in front of the CAP ninth grade, although I overcame this difficulty by embracing the fact and working to do the best I could. In the interdisciplinary week I had trouble embracing the fact that I was going to sing and continued to struggle with accepting it, although in the future I hope I can learn to embrace the truth more quickly so that I can work more on overcoming my stage fright and performing the best I can. The process I used to complete the project was not very effective and included much complaining. I was stressed from my constant nervousness and was not as joyful in the interdisciplinary as I should have been. If I could redo the project, I would change my attitude on singing so I could better embrace the fact and work to make it the best I can. With gaining knowledge in public speaking I also recognized a strength and weakness of mine. I discovered about my comedic standpoint, and how I can use it as power in my strengthening of public speaking and use it as an opposition to my stage fright. I also understood my weakness of public speaking and its importance in the CAP program. With my knowledge of my weakness, I can direct my improvement in the subject. In the past I knew that I had a problem with public speaking and stage fright. With every time I give a presentation, I heighten my skills at public speaking, although the interdisciplinary was the most prominent growth in the subject. I will work for the rest of CAP to decrease my stage fright and become a better public speaker for the benefit of various subjects and activities. I suggest for all freshmen scared of performing, like myself, to not fear drama as the first interdisciplinary. Instead they should embrace it as an opportunity to start off by improving, so that for the rest of the year it will be easier to perform. The Guilded Age Interdisciplinary is an important portfolio product because it is an important indicator of my needed improvements and a way I can succeed in reaching my goal of becoming a better at public speaking. By becoming a better public speaker I can improve in future interdisciplinary projects as well all my other classes.
