first

Na Kyung is often shy but she does show an eagerness to learn different things in class. She asks questions if there are things that are not clear to her. She is very helpful and dependable. She loves to help others who are in need. She is very obedient and influences others to show their proper behavior always. She told me that she is having difficulty reading and understanding our stories, writing her reflections and producing writing output. I suggest for her to read different reading materials at home so that she can improve her comprehension skills. I know you can do it, Na Kyung!

Sharing Information
Unit 2 started with a discussion about the children's favorite animals. They put their ideas and descriptions into writing. They used books and references to gather information, and they came up with their very own information report. Na Kyung made one about butterflies.

Autobiographical Poem Students know that GREAT writers often use their personal experiences when they write. In this activity, students recalled important memories and events in their lives, drafted their ideas, edited their works before publishing their autobiographical poems.

My Poem
This is the first poem writing activity of the class. This activity helped students understand that not all poems rhyme. It also helped students understand that writing whether it is a story or a poem- should be based from their own interests or experiences.

Reflections

Science class is full of learning and exploration. Na Kyung shows interest in knowing facts about the world around her. Our topic on Living Things fascinated her the most. She can describe basic needs and characteristics of animals and sort common functions for animals to grow. She can classify common animals by size, ability, habitat, and even what they eat. She understands the value of taking care of animals. In this GRASPS activity, the students were tasked to come up with an animal from their imagination. They described how it looks, what body parts it has, what food they eat and even their habitat. Na Kyung drew a special cat. It lives in the sea and snacks on cat food. It can run fast and be cute.

Art class is always fun and exciting for Na Kyung. She delights in drawing, sketching, and coloring activities. She is curious in knowing different artists and seeing their masterpieces. In the following artworks, Na Kyung finished her works independently and she is proud of what she has learned and created.

Reading
Reading has always been of prime importance here in Southville. We believe that learning how to read and enjoying the process go hand-inhand. Children are given a lot of opportunities to read: independently, guided, or with a group, to enhance their reading skills and strategies, fluency and comprehension. At the start of the first term, children went through a preassessment of their reading skills. They answered questions about 10 different kinds of text that they read in class. Data gathered from this test helps us, teachers, to check and monitor the learners improvement as we discuss the specific strategies for each level. A childs areas of strength and areas for improvement are identified to provide feedback and support where its needed.

Na Kyung is a quiet student in Reading class. However, when she is asked to read something, she tries to read even if the words are not that familiar to her. Despite not knowing a lot of English words, Na Kyung has shown that she wants to learn and this is a good trait. She follows instructions and tries to do tasks assigned to her. Her scores in the pre-assessment show that she is great with Making Predictions, however, there are still a lot of things to work harder on. I know that with her desire to learn, Na Kyung will further improve herself and gain better scores during the postassessment. You can do it, Na Kyung!
