Two Basic Objectives

Using a database containing demonstration data to get an overview of Open ERPs functionality (described in this handout, Guided Tour). Setting up a clean database to configure and populate a limited system for you (described in the next handout, Developing a real case).

Task 1: Database creation

Choose FilesDatabases--New database in the menu at the top left. Enter the superadministrator password, then the name of the new database youre creating.

Use following information: Super admin password : by default its admin New database name : openerp_ch02 Load Demonstration data checkbox: checked , Default Language : English , Administrator password : admin Confirm password : admin

Task 2: To connect to Open ERP

1. Change the Admin preferences through Administrator tab. Change the photograph appropriately. 2. How many modules are installed up to this stage? Right down the functionality of every module installed. (AQ) 3. Install Sales Management Module.

1. Choose Indian Accounting System 2. Choose the name of the company. You can change this at a later stage as well. 3. Change currency appropriately. Choose Sales Tax as 4% and Purchase Tax (Service Tax) as 12.30%

Quick Activities: (AQ)

Change the company details Create Bank account details. Also, create report footer and header Change the overdue payment common message. If you wish, you can change the logo of your company as well. Change the language of the demo user to Bulgarian. Login as a demo user and observe the interface. (The purpose of this step is to understand the importance of common GUI across the enterprise. No submission needed)

Task 3: Managing Customers

In Open ERP, a partner represents an entity that you do business with. That can be a prospect, a customer, a supplier, or even an employee of your company.

Create a new partner:

Create a customer (any) by keeping default accounting values. Challenge Quiz (AQ)
In the list view of Customers, add a column of Country. How will you search companies in Chennai alone? (In other words describe how to use filters.) Note: You will have to figure out these two things. Once you have got this, describe the process in bulleted format. Also see: Deliverables at the end of this document.

Individual Assignment: All Marketing specialization students should install CRM and all its derivative module All Ops specialization will install MRP/Purchase/Stock modules with all derivatives All HR specializations will install HR and its derivatives All Finance specialization will install account and some (your choice) of its der ivatives.
