CBOA Fall Meeting September 10, 2009 – 6:45 pm St. Mary’s H.S.

Minutes

1. Call to Order

2. Secretary – introduction to Ken Runquist, CBOA webmaster. Review of the


newly launched CBOA website by Ken. If anyone has any suggestions for
content to the website please direct it through to Donald via e-mail at
secretary@cboa.ca as he is CBOA’s point of contact with the webmaster.

3. Member at Large – Currently working on firming up the locations for all future
meetings. Please stay tuned to the website for information on venues for
upcoming events.

4. Evaluation – If you are looking for an evaluation this fall, please contact Ian via
e-mail evaluation@cboa.ca. Your 1st evaluation will be free. The mentorship
program has been reworked for this year, and all officials will have a mentor.
Your mentor should be contacting you shortly.

5. Vice President – Mt. Royal Recruitment Fair is on October 7th at Mt. Royal
during the day. If you have some time please contact Rod at vp@cboa.ca and let
him know. All officials are encouraged to be actively recruiting additional
officials whenever the opportunity arises.

An additional volunteer was required for the Discipline Committee, Dave


Carlgren has volunteered.

CBOA will be looking in to a clothing item for the membership. Rod will bring
back some options to the November meeting, please advise if you have any
suggestions directly to Rod.

6. Treasurer – welcome to Admir Chihaluca and Chris Pelletier who will be


assisting Evan Picton with Treasurer duties.

$475,000 worth of games were billed from September 2008 – September 2009.
Approximately $2300 increase in balance over the year.

Advances will be printed the third Sunday of each month. If you have
extenuating circumstances please advise, otherwise advances will only be granted
once per month.

7. Commissioner – Dick provided an overview of the new Arbiter. All officials are
requested to go in and blocks their unavailable dates ASAP.

8. President – Congrats to Michael Weiland for attaining his FIBA card this
summer, also to Sergio Giordano for going to referee the European Wheelchair

CBOA Fall Meeting September 10, 2009 – 6:45 pm St. Mary’s H.S.

Basketball Championships in Turkey. Welcome to all new and returning officials


to the CBOA.

The Executive will be bringing forward three motions for changes to the Bylaws
for the November meeting. First motion will be looking to increase the number of
required games from 40 to 60 to be a member in good standing. Second motion
aims to limit the number of terms an individual can stay in one Executive position
to three consecutive terms. Final motion will address how the Commissioner’s
contract will be awarded. Suggested that it is awarded on a yearly basis, with a
maximum of six consecutive years. Exact wording and supporting information
will be distributed ahead of the November meeting.

9. Education – there is a new method for reporting unsportsmanlike fouls, technical


fouls and ejections. The revised score sheet with explanation will be posted to the
CBOA website shortly.

A new function on the Education portion of the website will be the ability to
submit a question and have a response posted on the website. The person asking
the question will remain anonymous. Please send your questions to
education@cboa.ca
