Question 4 Research the Saudi Arabia justice system. List what you discover that you can connect to this case and beside each point state if this element would be legal in Canada and when possible, explain why or why not?
"Former prisoners reveal a culture of police brutality, torture and ill-treatment in many police stations, prisons and detention centers across the country. Beatings with sticks, electric shocks, cigarette burns and nail-pulling are some of the torture methods often described." This relates to this case because William Sampson was tortured, it would be illegal in Canada because the accused has its own rights.

"Prisoners have been threatened to force confessions, trials have been held without the notification or participation of defense lawyers and there is a lack of judicial response to individual allegations of mistreatment." It relates because, there was a strong evidence that William Sampson confession was through torture, which is completely illegal in Canada. In Canada your innocent till proven guilty. In Saudi Arabia they give the capital punishment, it's part of their justice system, even in case of murder or rape. William Sampson could have been executed. Whereas that would not be legal in Canada.

"The king is at top of legal system. He acts as the final court of appeal and can issue pardon." In Canada no one can be pardon for a crime has long has they are innocent.

In Saudi Arabia trials are secret, and private that means William Sampson was also a secret trial. In Canada it would be illegal because the accused has the right to be his own trial. In Canada it is public.
