CHAPTER 4 RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

4.1 Results The data collected from responds of questionnaire were analysed to come out with the finding being presented in this report. Total number of respond collected is 71.

The bar chart above shows the gender and age differences of the respondents. Majority of the respondents fall under the group of 22 to 29 years old with 27 male and 2 female respondent. There is no respondent from age group 1! to 17 years old. "or age of 1# to 21 years old$ there has ! male and female respondents. "our male respondents data and % female respondents collected from the group age of & to 9 years old and only 2 male respondents is collected for age %& and above. There are could not be analyse because there do not answer the gender and age section. 'ince the most significant respondents fall in the group of 22 to 29 years old$ hence all other ne(t analysis will be based on the response of this group of age. ) possible e(planation to this chart is group of age between 22*29 years old are studying at their tertiary level. They have easy access to internet and constantly online for studying and entertainment. "or group age 1! to 17 years old$ no respondent appear to answer this questionnaire might be due to school student do not used internet as medium of study. Meanwhile$ for age %& years old and above$ the result shown may be because of less internet literacy among them.

"rom the pie charts$ it shows that both male and female respondents are student. Male respondents ma,e up !2- and female .1-. "or male respondents$ second higher respondents are wor,ing as lecturer or teacher with 1#-. /hile for female$ the second higher respondents is wor,ing as e(ecutive with 17-. The third higher respondents for male is non*e(ecutive which ma,e up to 1!- out of the total data analysed. There is 1 - of the female respondents coming from teaching bac,ground. The e(ecutive of male respondents ma,e to 11- and for female$ the fourth highest percentage is 9- who wor,ing as non*e(ecutive. )s for other category$ the male respondents is %- and no female respondents fall in this category. 0ther can be describe as unemployed and businessman.

1t is obviously shown that students are the majority group who did answer the questionnaire being promoted in social media platform compared to other group of profession. 1t is resulted from the dependency of students to the internet and social networ, channel for their studying.

The fourth chart above represent the sources of biomass information of male and female respondents. Twelve male respondents claim that they get the information of biomass from mass media. 2irect information in the bar chart above represent information directly get through lecture class$ seminar3course3campaign and conversation with friends and family. 4ine female respondents answer the questionnaire that they get the information from this source. )s for male$ only . respondents are e(pose to biomass materials through direct information. )s for mi( mode of information sources$ there is 7 female and 1 respondents. Mi( mode means that the respondents get the information through printed and online articles$ radio$ advertisement$ by attending seminar$ courses$ and lecture class or by conversation with acquaintances. There is also respondents who never heard about biomass and the evident can be deduce from the chart by referring to third bar of the fourth chart. There is . male and 2 female respondents who never heard about biomass. Mass media being the highest information source in total of female and male is an evident that Malaysian really depending on mass media as their source of information. )s mention by )gner "og in her article of +ulture 'election$ 1999$ The mass media have an important role in modern democratic society as the main channel of communication. The population relies on the news media as the main source of information and the basis on which they form their opinions and voting decisions.

The above chart shows the respondents numbers who have heard and they also ,now to some e(tend about biomass. The bar chart representing the data by comparing male and female awareness. 1t is very clear statistic showing that students has more

e(posure to biomass rather than other profession category of the respondents. There is 12 male and 12 female respondents who not only heard about biomass$ but also has e(tended ,nowledge about it. Meanwhile$ there is only % female and 2 male e(ecutive that ,nows further about biomass. "or non*e(ecutive$ the number of male respondents is person and 1 female respondents. 0ther types of profession shows that only 1 male and 2 female respondents has further ,nowledge and awareness on biomass. "or lecturer or teacher$ only 1 male and no female respondent come from this type of profession. )gain from chart !$ we found that student are the group of respondent to has heard about biomass and have further ,nowledge on it compared to other group of the respondent. This might be because the biomass has been e(posed to them in curriculum syllabus.

The pie chart above represent the percentage of male and female of Malaysian who agree that biomass could help the development of various sectors in Malaysia. The sectors are farming$ construction$ plantation and factory. "ifty two percent of the respondent is male and %%- is female and only %- of the respondent who do not agree with the statement mention as the title.

The above bar chart represent the responses gathered through the questionnaire as,ing the level of awareness on biomass implementation among Malaysian. The bar chart shows that . male and 2# female respondents do agree that Malaysian has low level of awareness regarding biomass. They did agree that Malaysian is do not e(posed to biomass information due to lease e(posure from mass media$ not much information available$ they do not aware of the importance of biomass and Malaysian is very much depending on fuels energy. 1n percentage$ 92.#- of the respondents agree that Malaysia has low level of biomass implementation. 5owever$ there is male and 2 female respondent who did not agreed that Malaysian how low level of biomass awareness.

Then$ from the data$ above chart is built to represent the respondents reacted about which medium would be most effective to raise the level of awareness among Malaysian. "or male respondent$ most of them agree that the information and awareness should be deliver through more and e(tensive campaign with 1 of them agreed on this method. 1n contrast$ only 1 female agrees to it. 'econdly$ 1& male and 7 female respondents agree to convey the awareness to Malaysian through pamphlet and another 1& male and . female respondents agreed it should be included in academic syllabus. 4ine male and 2 female respondents agreed that research and development6s publication. 'ocial networ, platform too$ would be effective to increase Malaysian6s level of awareness on biomass implementation is proved when there is 9 male and . female agreed to this method. 4.1 Discussions Those reaction of respondent on this matter show that different class$ group of age and profession depending on different types of information source. 5ence$ they react to the according to what are comfortable to. "rom the result and discussion$ the bar chart 1 shows the most significant respondent fall in the group of 22 and 29 and data could not be analyse because there do not answer the gender and age section. "rom the bar chart 1 result$ we can conclude that age between 22*29 have easy access to internet and constantly online for studying or entertainment instead of group age 1! to 17 years. The number of

group age %& and above are low based on the result because of less internet literacy among them. The respondent might be have no idea or even ever heard about biomass. ;esult of bar chart 7 shows . male and 2# female respondent agree that Malaysian has low level of awareness regarding biomass because do not e(posed to biomass information due to lease e(posure from mass media and Malaysian is very much depending on fuels energy. <ast but not least$ the bar chart of the =method to deliver biomass awareness among Malaysian> shows most of them agree that information and awareness should be deliver through more and e(tensive campaign with 1 of them agreed on this method. 1nformation source is the most important thing that influenced the result of the questionnaire. 2ifferent class$ group of age and profession have their own ,nowledge$ information and e(perience. 5ence$ they react to the questionnaire based on different ,ind of sources.
