CHAPTER I: THE PROBLEM Introduction

A nursing career is seen as a ticket out of poverty in the Philippines. In our generation today, many parents believe that if their child has taken up nursing as a career, it would be easy for them to find a job because of the increasing demand of nurses abroad. Not only that, because of the mouthwatering benefits like a fat signing bonus, a brand new house, a one or two new cars, free airfare and the list goes on but forgot about that (about the fact) because US current economy is down, there is no job vacancies in the hospitals, and some Filipino Registered Nurses were sent back here in the Philippines. With 490 nursing colleges in the country, the Philippines are producing up to 100,000 nurses every yearway beyond its needs. According to PRC, the December 2011 board exam passing rate of 33.92 percent was even lower than December 2010's 35.25 percent, which the CHED said was the lowest in the history.) Last July 8, 2013, PRC released the results of June 2013 Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam passers. A total of 16,219 out of 37, 887 new registered nurses (RNs) passed the Philippines Nursing Licensure Exam. Some 400,000 nurses are unemployed today, according to CHED Executive Director Julito Vitriolo. The Alliance of Young Nurse Leaders & Advocates International said in a January 2011 statement before the Senate that about 200,000 nurses are jobless while the PRC estimates under-employment among nurses to be at just under 300,000.

Each year, there is an increasing number of Registered Nurses but cannot find a work in the hospital settings. Some nurses pay a certain amount of money just for the training in the hospital but does not give them any assurance if they will be hired after the training. But Nurses nowadays are not only employed in medical field but they are also employed in other fields such as in academic, industrial, entrepreneurship and the list goes on. The researchers aim to conduct a study on the Nursing graduates of Makati Medical Center College to track down the whereabouts of their former students and their current employment status and identify the entrepreneurial skills of those who opted to go into non-clinical career.

Statement of the Problem

This is a study on the Nursing Graduates of Makati Medical Ceneter College. This study aims to correlate the Field of Work, Job Satisfaction and Challenges met in NonClinical Career. The study will seek to answer the following question:

The study will answer the following specific questions: 1. What is the profile of the nursing graduates in terms of: Age Gender Year Graduated Employment Status Field of Work Years of Work Experience If NLE were taken

2. What are the skills utilized/demonstrated by nursing graduates in the workplace. 3. What are the challenges experienced by Nurses in Non-Clinical Career in terms of: Physical Mental

Emotional

4. Level of satisfaction in the work place 5. How do graduates differ in their Level of Satisfaction in the workplace when grouped according to the profile variables? 6. Is there a significant relationship between the profile and field of work? Is there a significant relationship between the profile and Challenges Experienced in Non-Clinical Job 7. Is there a relationship between the profile and Job Satisfaction? 8. Is there a relationship between field of work and Job Satisfaction?

Hypothesis

The following null hypotheses will be tested at 0.05 level of significance:

Ho1. There is a significant relationship between the profile and field of work of the respondents. Ho2. There is a significant relationship between the profile and challenges experienced In their non-clinical field Ho3. There is a significant relationship between the profile and level of job satisfaction Ho4. There is a significant relationship between the field of work and level of job satisfaction

Significance of the Study

This study correlates the profile variables, NLE performance, field of practice, current non-clinical occupation and satisfaction level of the respondent. A tracer study of the graduates of Makati Medical Center College of Nursing formerly Remedios T. Romualdez Memorial School. With its data presentation, analysis and interpretation, this study will benefit the following sectors: a. Nursing Student this study serves the students as a reference or guide and expand their knowledge about other non-clinical job opportunities b. Teachers/Professors/Mentors this study may be used by them to guide other students or un-employed registered nurses and provide them with ideas of possible occupation they may employ themselves in whether they would or would not like to be in their desired field. c. Future researcher this study may serve as a reference, guide, and a source of valuable information that they might find useful when gathering information for their research with similar context to this study.

Scope and Limitation

This study focuses on the Nursing Graduates of Makati Medical center College. It will look into their profile: Age, Gender, Year Graduated, Employment Status, Field of Work, Years of Work Experience, and If NLE were taken and Level of statisfaction of the graduates in the work place and Challegenes experienced in Non-Clinical Career. Data Collection will start on April 2013.

The study was done to trace the Nursing graduates of Makati Medical Center College and correlate the profile, field of employment, level of satisfaction and their challenges experienced in their Non Clinical Career.

The total number of graduates of Class ___ is composed of ___. The researcher will be using simple random sampling. Data will be collected through survey questionnaire.

The study is divided into two parts: chapters 1-3 and chapters 4-5. The first part of the study will be conducting during Second semester from November to March of class 2013-2014. The researchers will be conducting a survey on the respondent on the First semester of academic year 2014-2015 and finish the rest of the chapter.

CHAPTER II: REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

NEARLY EIGHT OUT OF 10 employees reported overall satisfaction with their current positions, according to the 2007 Job Satisfaction Survey Report released by the Society for Human Resource Management. Compensation/pay, benefits, job security, flexibility to balance work/life issues and communication between employees and senior management were the top five contributors to job satisfaction, according to employees. The top five employee aspects mirror last year's findings; the main difference was that communication between employees and senior management replaced feeling safe in the work environment as the fifth important aspect. For the past four years, benefits and compensation/pay have both been rated by employees as the top two aspects most important to their job satisfaction. In 2007, 59% of employees each reported that benefits and compensation/pay were very important to their job satisfaction. The survey also measured aspects of employee job satisfaction predicted by human resource professionals. The top five aspects were as follows: 1) relationship with immediate supervisor; 2) compensation/pay; 3) management recognition of employee job

performance; 4) benefits; and 5) communication between employees and senior management. Other findings include:

Male employees listed health care/medical benefits as the top aspect,

while female employees identified feeling safe in the work environment as the most important factor to their job satisfaction. In 2006, compensation/pay topped the list for both males and females.

Compensation/pay was indicated as the most important job satisfaction

factor by employees aged 35 and younger and 36 to 55. Employees aged 56 and older indicated that feeling safe in their work environment was their top priority.

CHAPTER III: METHODOLOGY

This chapter contains a comprehensive description of the research design, research setting, respondent, sampling technique, data gathering method and procedures, instruments and statistical treatment of the study.

Research Design

The descriptive-correlational method of research is being utilized in this study. A descriptive correlation method is one that helps to determine if two or more variables are associated with each other by explaining their relationship but not necessarily implying that this relationship is also a cause. Almost similarly is a descriptive correlational design, which uses existing mutual relationships between data to describe it but does not endeavor to establish whether these are statistically significant correlations. The descriptive-correlational method is most appropriate for this study since it focuses on the significant relationship of 4 variables which are profile variables, the challenges experienced in non-clinical areas, field of work, and job satisfaction level. Setting of the Study/Research Locale

The researcher will try to reach as many nursing graduates who are currently employed here and abroad in a non-clinical field. These graduates obtained their Bachelor of Science in Nursing from RTRMS/MMCN.
