ABOUT AIRTEL

Airtel is a brand of telecommunication services in India operated by Bharti Airtel. Bharti Airtel, formerly known as Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited (BTVL) is among India's largest mobile phone and Fixed Network operators. With more than 40 million subscriptions, the company is one of the world's fastest growing telecom companies. It offers its mobile services under the Airtel brand and is headed by Sunil Mittal, India's sixth richest man with a total worth of US$10 billion. The company is the only GSM operator to provide mobile services in all the 23 circles in India. The company also provides telephone services and Internet access over DSL in 14 circles. The company complements its mobile, broadband & telephone services with national and international long distance services. The company also has a submarine cable landing station at Chennai, which connects the submarine cable connecting Chennai and Singapore. The company provides reliable end-to-end data and enterprise services to the corporate customers by leveraging its nationwide fiber optic backbone, last mile connectivity in fixed-line and mobile circles, VSATs, ISP and international bandwidth access through the gateways and landing station. Airtel is the largest cellular service provider in India in terms of number of subscribers. Bharti Airtel owns the Airtel brand and provides the following services under the brand name Airtel: Mobile Services (using GSM Technology), Broadband & Telephone Services (Fixed line and Internet Connectivity), Long Distance Services and Enterprise Services (Telecommunications Consulting for corporate). Leading international telecommunication companies such as Vodafone and SingTel hold partial stakes in Bharti Airtel. In April 2006 Bharti Global Limited was awarded a telecommunications licence in Jersey in the Channel Islands by the local telecommunications regulator the JCRA. In September 2006 the Office of Utility Regulation in Guernsey awarded Guernsey Airtel with a mobile telecommunications license. In May 2007 Jersey Airtel and Guernsey Airtel announced the launch of a relationship with Vodafone for island mobile subscribers. In July 2007, Bharti Airtel signed an Moue with Nokia-Siemens for a 900 million dollar expansion of its mobile and fixed network.

Touchtel
Until September 18, 2004, Bharti provided fixed-line telephony and broadband services under the Touchtel brand. Bharti now provides all telecom services including fixed-line services under a common brand "Airtel" Forbes Global 2000 Ranking - 2007 The Forbes Global 2000 list for the year 2007 ranked Bharti at 1149.

PRODUCTS
Airtel
Airtel is a brand of telecommunication services in India, Bangladesh and in Sri Lanka owned and operated by Bharti Airtel. It is the largest cellular service provider in India in terms of number of subscribers. Services are offered under the brand name Airtel: Mobile Services (using GSM Technology), Broadband & Telephone Services (Fixed line, Internet Connectivity (DSL) and Leased Line), Long Distance Services and Enterprise Services (Telecommunications Consulting for corporate). It has presence in all 23 circles of the country and covers 71% of the current

population (as of Financial Year 2007). Airtel has also launched 16Mb/s broadband plans in India, making it the first ISP to do so.

Airtel Sri Lanka


In December 2008, Bharti Airtel rolled out third generation services in Sri Lanka in association with Singapore Telecommunications. SingTel is a major player in the 3G space in Asia. It operates third generation networks in several markets across Asia. Airtel's operation in Sri Lanka, known as Airtel Lanka, commenced operations on the 12th of January 2009.

Airtel in Bangladesh
In January 2010, it was announced that the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) of The People's Republic of Bangladesh had given Bharti Airtel the go ahead to acquire a 70% stake in the Bangladesh business of Abu Dhabi based Warid Telecom. The latter had till date invested a total of $600 million, with plans to bring their Bangladesh investments to the $1 billion mark. Airtel's 70% stake in the company is said to be at a cost of an initial $300 million.

Touchtel

BlackBerry
On 19 October 2004 Airtel announced the launch of a BlackBerry Wireless Solution in India. The launch is a result of a tie-up between Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited and Research In Motion (RIM).

Digital TV

On 9 October 2008, Airtel joined the DTH bandwagon in India with Airtel Digital TV, a Directto-Home Television service.

iPhone 3G
The Apple iPhone 3G was rolled out in India on 22 August 2008 via Airtel & Vodafone

Business Profile
Bharti Airtel (formerly Bharti Tele-Ventures), a part of Bharti Enterprises, works through three individual SBUs -mobile services, broadband and telephone services and enterprise services. The company, established in 1995, is a public limited company and is head quarter in New Delhi, India. The company provides GSM mobile services across India in 23 telecom circles, while the B&T business group provides broadband & telephone services in 15 circles. The enterprise services group has two sub-units -carriers (long distance services) and services to corporate. Bharti Airtel is the largest mobile telephony operator in the GSM space with around 27 per cent market share in FY05. The company, apart from being the largest player in the mobile segment with subscribers in all the 23 telecom circles of the country, also provides varied services like fixed line, broadband and retail internet access. The company is also one of the fastest growing fixed line and long distance (DLD as well as ILD) operators in the country. It offers broadband and other data oriented services to corporate clients.
