Ring Crane

Capacity: 20T/5T

Ring Crane is very critical equipment for transport of material and other critical equipment in Cast House. ach furnace cast house has t!o cranes" one stand#y to each other. $s the crane follo!s the circular path it is called as Ring crane. They are used to shift material in cast house from one place to another and to change the critical equipment of the Cast House i.e." %ud gun" &rilling machine" Roc'ing runner and their motors. Ring Crane has ( mechanisms" namely: ). *ong Travel +*T,: to move the load along the furnace periphery. 2. Cross Travel +CT,: to move the load across the furnace periphery. -. %ain Hoist +%H,: to lift up / do!n the load of up to 20Tons. (. $u.iliary Hoist +$H,: to lift up/do!n the load of up to 5Tons. /perator sits in the crane ca#in to operate the crane. ach mechanism has one master controller" !hich has four notches in for!ard/up!ard direction and four notches in #ac'!ard/do!n!ard direction. ach notch is designed to have specific speed" !hich is o#tained #y rotor resistance cutting of specific motor +0R1%,. 2e! 34& panel has #een installed to replace the follo!ing: ). Resistance cutting contactors and their au.iliary contacts. 5. 0ome of the au.iliary relays. 2ecessary changes made in the e.isting circuit: ). 0ame slip ring motor has #een used #y short circuiting the rotor terminals at the slip rings.

2. 0ame master controller has #een used #y changing the cam programming. -. Heat dissipation arrangements have #een made. Conclusion: 1t is o#served that #y replacing the e.isting CT/*T panel !ith 34& panel" #rea'do!ns have come do!n drastically as !e have removed most vulnera#le part of the crane mechanism i.e." all the contactors" relays and timers. %aintenance of all the a#ove said elements has #een avoided. Relia#ility of the equipment has increased to the satisfactory levels of the operator. =y replacing the old panel !ith 34& panel" 0mooth control of the speed has reduced the sudden @er'ing motion of the crane and in turn it has reduced the !ear and tear of the equipment. $s it has avoided the usage of the e.isting rotor circuit" 4estoon siAe and !eight have come do!n !hich has reduced the !ear and tear of the rollers" there#y increasing the life of the same. %oreover" !ith the dynamic #ra'ing capa#ility of the 34& panel" !e can decide the coasting and acceleration times of the motor to attain the given speed.
