$y experience at Eagle Bluff Elementary %it& Laura Jo&nson &as opened my eyes to anot&er aspect of education' (s t&is %as my first experience in a special education classroom ) %as not sure %&at to expect' $rs' Jo&nson %as *ery %elcoming and explained e*eryt&ing t&at s&e %as teac&ing in detail to me' +&e climate of t&e classroom %as *ery ,uiet calm and supporti*e' +&e students in &er class -no% %&at to do and t&ey -no% %&at is expected of t&em as soon as t&ey arri*e' +&e p&ysical setting of t&e classroom is *ery supporti*e' +&e classroom is *ery large %it& four different sets of ta.le for group seating' +&ere are also spaces %&ere t&e students can go if t&ey need a ,uiet space' +&ere is anot&er teac&er in t&e classroom t&at $rs' Jo&nson teac&es in so it/s set up nicely so t&at t&ey can .ot& teac& t&eir groups %it&out getting distracted' $rs' Jo&nson supports t&e regular education teac&ers .y communicating %it& t&em face0to0face and t&roug& &er students' !&e al%ays -no%s %&at &er students are doing in t&eir ot&er classes and s&e communicates %it& &er students/ regular education teac&ers and parents regularly' !&e is al%ays colla.orating to find %&at is .est for &er students' +%o of &er students 1fift& graders2 are going on t&e fift& grade trip and s&e is constantly communicating %it& t&e parents and t&e adapti*e 3E teac&er to figure out t&e .est approac& to getting t&em in*ol*ed in t&e trip' !&e also does a 4pus&0in/ lesson in a #st grade classroom for a guided reading lesson e*ery morning' !&e &as fi*e students in &er group t%o of %&ic& come into &er classroom regularly'

) &a*e really en5oyed %or-ing %it& $rs' Jo&nson for many reasons' !&e is an a%esome teac&er and ) really li-e &er teac&ing style6 %&ic& is calm and supporti*e' !&e &as created a positi*e relations&ip %it& eac& of &er students %&ic& is somet&ing ) &ope to do' (nytime s&e taug&t somet&ing ne% in t&e curriculum s&e made a point to explain it to me and s&o% me many examples' ) also fell in lo*e %it& t&e students t&at s&e %or-s %it&' +&ey are so s%eet and are suc& &appy c&ildren' ) also li-ed t&e amount of responsi.ility s&e ga*e me' ) %as a.le to ta-e control at some points if s&e %as .usy %it& somet&ing else' +&ere %ere se*eral times %&ere s&e needed to tal- to someone and s&e %ould 5ust lea*e and allo% me to continue teac&ing %&at s&e &ad left off %it&' +&ere %ere also a fe% times %&en %e s%itc&ed to t&e ot&er resource room and s&e stayed in to tal- to anot&er teac&er so ) started doing t&e ne% acti*ity0suc& as spelling tests %&ic& s&e %as o-ay %it&' !&e also ga*e me t&e c&ance to %or- one0on0one %it& at least one student e*ery time ) %as t&ere' $y o*erall experience %it& $rs' Jo&nson %as a *ery positi*e one and ) &a*e continued to go t&ere for my *olunteer &ours' ) plan on continuing to go t&ere at least once a %ee- until sc&ool is done .ecause ) really li-e %or-ing %it& &er' ) &a*e also considered special education as a future career and %ill continue to -eep it in mind and get as muc& experience as possi.le until ) decide'
